Ball beats Goodman by unanimous decision

Nick Ball is still the WBA featherweight champion of the world!

The three judges scored the fight 117-111, 118-110 and 115-113 in favour of the Liverpudlian.

Shocked to see it that wide from the judges, though Sam Goodman deserved more than that.

Deep down I think Ball may have just about nicked it but you wouldn't be shocked if Goodman takes it.

Let's also not rule out the draw.

  4. Round 12published at 21:51 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Ball shows his strength as the two come together and muscles Goodman to the floor as blood starts to trickle from the eye of Ball. These two are really going for it in this final round, perhaps knowing this could be the difference between winning and losing.

Goodman hits Ball hard twice to the body and he catches Ball hard with a hook but here comes the Briton giving it his all as the final rings.

Both raise their hands and we'll go to the cards to decide this one.

Some of us maybe thought Goodman wouldn't have it in him if he was put under pressure, but they are both fighting out of their skin here.

I think this is still tight.

"Don't let him pinch this round" are the orders from Ball's corner as we enter the final round.

What a fight this has been.

You forget the referee is even in the ring - we've barely had any clinching with these two just battling it out in the middle. Ball has been switching stances looking for a way in but has struggled to sustain attacks on the clever Goodman. Ball finishes the round the stronger but was it enough to take the round?

DAZN had this fight scored a draw going into the 11th round and that result certainly is not out of the question.

Nick Ball is out-working Goodman no question, but Goodman is getting more and more confident and starting to push Ball back with the straight punches.

The problem he has is when he misses and falls in - that's when Ball pounces with three, four punch combinations.

A classic round where both boxers competed right to the bell.

Goodman holds his feet and Ball lands a lovely right hand before coming back with another one-two. He's twisting and turning to through shots from all angles, making it hard for Goodman to read.

Goodman is starting to let his shots go more but that's exactly what Ball wants. Great round for the man from Liverpool.

I do not envy the judges having to try and score this one.

It's very quiet inside the ANB Arena in Riyadh but we've just seen some lovely work from Ball as he picks apart Goodman but the Australian comes back with firm straights of his own before dipping to the body.

Goodman's footwork has been stunning tonight but Ball rocks his jaw right at the end of the round.

Goodman is competing really well but the eye-catching shots and the really effective punches are all coming from Ball.

There was a part of that round where Goodman really got into gear and controlled the space with the jab and beating Ball to the punch. Ball finished the round a bit stronger so it makes it a really close round.

I think Goodman may have just nicked it.

    Ball v Goodman

Ball looks to come forward early in the round and connects with a few nice punches but nothing that troubles Goodman. The Australian has looked to nail Ball's body on a number of occasions and that may have slowed down the Briton.

Ball swings wildly looking for an overhand right as Goodman shows his nifty footwork off.

Ball is looking to box more measured, perhaps realising Goodman won't be engaging in throwing loads of punches. Ball is trying to pick his punch and is looking for the uppercut but hasn't been able to find it just yet. Goodman is holding back and shows off his skills with a lovely combo towards the end of the round.

This fight is so, so tight.

Some very smart boxing from Ball in the last 30-40 seconds of that round - he was in close, in range. He could have been hit cleanly but he moved his head and never took his eyes off Goodman.

This is impressive stuff from Goodman in his first world title fight. Let's not forget he's also come up a weight to take on Ball and he's more than holding his own.

Ball stalks Goodman and times a perfect right hook but Goodman takes it well. I think that might have been Ball's best round so far but it could've honestly gone to either fighter.

It's good stuff from Ball. I think Ball was sent out in that round to get up close to Goodman and in the first part of the round he definitely did. He caught Goodman with some really good shots on the inside and some really good uppercuts.

    He is getting closer.

Here comes Ball with a hard left hand and the knees of Goodman take a dip. He definitely felt the power of the Briton there but he manages to compose himself and get back on the jab.

Ball is definitely the busier of the two and, in a fight that's proving tough to score, could that be the difference?

That last round was the Nick Ball I've been waiting to see.
