Goodman looks as though he's starting to relax into this title fight and he's maintaining a great distance while being able to land his jab with Ball struggling to land anything significant so far.

Goodman brings huge cheers from his corner as he lands a lovely combo but here comes Ball in the last 10 seconds.

    Another entertaining round.

  2. 'Nick Ball having less success being Nick Ball'published at 21:18 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

    Steve Bunce
Boxing expert on BBC Radio 5 Live

Three competitive rounds - you might give all three to Nick Ball but I don't think he has won them all clearly and hasn't dominated.

Nick Ball is having less success being Nick Ball against Sam Goodman than any fight since the Rey Vargas fight over a year ago

Ball lands a firm right hand and Goodman's gumshield flies out. The referee doesn't exactly rush to pick it up and get it back in either! Ball lands a lovely right hand - bringing some noise from the crowd.

It's an encouraging round for Goodman. He manages to keep Ball at a good distance while looking for the jab but Ball is always active and always dangerous.

  4. 'Goodman needs to get his jab going'published at 21:13 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

    Richie Woodhall
Former boxing world champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Ball outworks Goodman. What Goodman needs to do is get his jab going, he is waiting too long for what Ball is going to do. He has to use his height and reach more effectively

  5. Round twopublished at 21:10 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Ball comes in close but Goodman deals with him well and lands a good hook to the head. Ball's nose is starting to redden with Goodman doing well to keep hold of centre ring and skip out of distance when needed.

    Another tight round.

  6. Round onepublished at 21:06 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Nice work from Ball to land a left hook but Goodman fancies landing a few himself and that's exactly what he does as he connects with the body of Ball - who then lands a great right hand.

Goodman looks to fight at range with his jab but he's wide open for Ball to advantage of and he nails him with a hard right.

Boxing promoter Frank Warren spoke to BBC Radio 5 Live about Nick Ball ahead of his fight against Sam Goodman: "I like Nick and I think he is the best at his weight, he is a cracking fighter.

"Paul Stevenson [Ball's trainer] has got a good thing going with his gym and Nick has been spearheading that. He is a fighter that Britain should be proud of. "

  10. 'It's good pressure' - Ballpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Briton Nick Ball (22-0-1, 13 KOs) will defend his WBA featherweight title against Australia's Sam Goodman (20-0, 8 KOs) as the main support on Saturday's card.

The 28-year-old makes the third defence of the title he won against Raymond Ford in June 2024, having most recently stopped TJ Doheny in March.

Kirkby-born Ball, who remains the only reigning male world champion from Britain, said: "It's good pressure."

Goodman, 26, was previously set to face Japanese superstar Naoya Inoue, the undisputed super-bantamweight king, before injury dashed his hopes.

"I've got many avenues for victory and I'll exploit whatever one presents itself on fight night," he said.

    Ball v Goodman

It really is a sight to behold when watching Nick Ball in a boxing ring.

At just 5 foot 2, Ball is one of the smaller men you'll see fighting but he's an incredible fighter to watch due to his speed, skill and tenacity.

Goodman will have to deal with Ball's unrelenting pressure if he is to become the first boxer to hand the Liverpudlian a defeat.

    Here we go then.

Sam Goodman is in the ring having a good bounce off the ropes.

That may be the fastest walk down the ramp I've seen. No messing about there.

  14. Ball kicks out in last fightpublished at 20:57 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Nick Ball's last fight against TJ Doheny ended in a 10th round stoppage for the Liverpudlian but it could have been a completely different story for Ball.

Fighting in his home city, Ball was frustrated at the end of the first round and kicked out at Doheny - later admitting he could have been disqualified.

    Less of that tonight, Nick!

  16. 'The perfect step up at the perfect time for Itauma'published at 20:54 British Summer Time 16 August

    Itauma v Whyte

    Eddie Hearn
Boxing promoter speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live

I think it is good matchmaking. He has never boxed anyone world class but there is no doubt that he is an exceptional talent. For me, this is the perfect step up at the perfect time.

Dillian Whyte is 37 and has been very inactive. He is not notoriously fantastic against southpaws and he struggles with fast feet and hands. The style is a bit of a nightmare, but if he can find his way in to the fight it will be interesting to see some of those questions answered.

  17. Will Itauma be as popular as AJ or Fury?published at 20:52 British Summer Time 16 August

    Itauma v Whyte

We've been lucky as fans of British heavyweight boxing recently with the likes of Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury but we won't be seeing those two in the ring many more times.

At 20, Moses Itauma has the world at his feet but will he have the fans the likes of AJ and Fury have?

If he keeps producing the knockouts he has then I'm sure he'll have a chance!

  18. Goodman's chance to become world championpublished at 20:50 British Summer Time 16 August

    Ball v Goodman

Sam Goodman comes into this world title fight with Nick Ball an impressive 20-0 but this is the first time he has fought outside of his native Australia.

Ball is a step up from anyone Goodman has stepped in the ring with but this is Goodman's chance to become a champion of the world.

What a fight this might turn out to be!

Maybe talking through Parker's strategy to potentially overcome Oleksandr Usyk? Well, that's if the two ever get in the ring together, that is!

  20. 'My job is to get in the ring and fight'published at 20:46 British Summer Time 16 August

    Itauma v Whyte

Moses Itauma acknowledges previous dreams of taking Mike Tyson's record as the youngest heavyweight champion were "naive".

Tyson was 20 years, 4 months, and 22 days when he became world champion and Itauma is yet to hit that level. But he may not be far away.

"I understand why [there is hype] but it's not my job to," Itauma said.

"My job is to get in the ring and fight and leave all that kind of praise to people outside the ring.

"I know if I go to bed tonight and wake up tomorrow then I still have to play the Moses Itauma role. Whereas you guys might go to bed hating Moses Itauma and wake up loving him. I don't want to be basing my opinion of myself on what other people think."
