Team Bath's England netballer Serena Guthrie says the squad has what it takes to make the final at this summer's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

England have never made the final at the event before, losing all four semi-finals they have contested since the sport made its debut in 1998.

"We want to be in that final," Jersey-born Guthrie told BBC Sport.

"We want to be competing and we want to show world netball that we're not a bronze medal team anymore."

Glasgow will be Guthrie's first Commonwealth Games, but the 24-year-old is no stranger to the England set-up, having made her debut as a 17-year-old back in 2008., external

She has also been part of the England side that won a bronze at the 2011 World Championships and took gold in the 2011 World Series.

"We've sat down and talked about what medal we want and it's not a bronze," she said.

"We want to be in that final and that's our goal and we'll be pushing hard for that."

Three of England's Commonwealth Games semi-final defeats have been against Australia.

But Guthrie was part of the England side which whitewashed the Australians 3-0 in the last test series in January 2013, boosting their confidence for this summer's matches in Glasgow.

"You have to put in the performances in order to believe, and I think we've done that more consistently over the past four years," Guthrie said.

"Going into these games we can beat Australia and New Zealand and we're looking forward to that challenge.

"The pool rounds will be important for us because we'll meet them nice and early.

"It's my first games and I'm really excited, I'm not sure what to expect.

"It's nice to have a blank canvas and I want to write an amazing story on it when I get up there.

"We have a really solid team that can go up there and give it our all."
