Billy Godleman's first Championship century of the summer set Derbyshire on their way to an eight-wicket victory within three days against Surrey.
Chasing 251 to win, Derbyshire openers Godleman and Ben Slater (45) put on 94 together before Jade Dernbach had the latter caught in the slips.
Godleman (104 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara (90 not out) then eased the visitors to their target.
Their 154-run partnership meant Surrey finished their season with defeat.
The Oval outfit ended the campaign with a tinge of disappointment, having had a chance of immediate promotion back to Division One going into last week's fixtures before their dramatic collapse at Worcestershire.
Meanwhile, Derbyshire, who face winless Leicestershire in the final round of matches, will take positives from the match, after seeing youngster Slater pass 1,000 career first-class runs.
The visitors lost Wayne Madsen for two but then India Test batsman Pujara put on his first show for Derbyshire, having been dismissed for seven, a duck and 16 in his previous innings, to ease his side to a victory on a day in which they looked rarely troubled.
Surrey head coach Graham Ford:
"We were probably on the wrong side of the toss at the start of the match but we did think it would swing again today and it is strange that it did not.
"There was also no real lateral movement off the pitch, and it was certainly the best time in the game to bat.
"It's a disappointing way to finish the season but I think we have made some really good progress overall, especially some of the younger players.
"Jason Roy, for example, has shown his talent and I believe he is good enough to play internationally in all forms at some stage."
