A really loose start from Adil Rashid and he's punished.

    Six more!

A full toss to start from Adil Rashid and Paul Stirling hammers the ball back over the England leg-spinner's head for another maximum.

Since the start of 2022, Ireland have won 10 of the 12 T20I matches in which they've survived the powerplay without losing a wicket - four of these victories have come against full member nations (v South Africa in Abu Dhabi 2024, v Zimbabwe in Harare 2023, v West Indies in Hobart 2022 & v Afghanistan in Belfast 2022)

That's a magnificent strike form Ross Adair! The first time of the over that Jamie Overton has gone full.

We know that he's capable of those shots, just shuffles down the pitch and sends it.

    Stirling 19, R Adair 25

What a way to end the powerplay!

Ross Adair shimmies down again and flays Jamie Overton high over the off side for a huge six.

That one was out of the middle!

  6. Ire 43-0published at 5.5 overs

Jamie Overton is back as England continue their plan of angling the ball into the body of the two right-handed Ireland openers.

They know even the merest hint outside off will be punished.

Ross Adair is able to get a pull shot away behind square, though, and Rehan Ahmed puts in the dive on the rope but can't prevent the boundary.

Four more for Adair, rushed by a bumper and he gloves the pull shot, but wide of Jos Buttler and away fine.

You can see that the Irish batters are shortish on game time. They've not really timed it well. There's been a few big swings but other than that, they've been beaten by pace.

It is obvious that they're getting used to playing this style of cricket again.

  8. Ire 32-0published at 5 overs

Sam Curran goes back to the slower ball to end the over and this time it does deceive Paul Stirling.

He might have picked it but this time he didn't wait quite long enough for it. Swing and a miss as the ball thuds into his thigh.

Paul Stirling almost swung himself off his feet! That's the hardest part, just waiting for it and timing it perfectly.

There is the slower ball from Sam Curran - and Paul Stirling is only too happy to see it!

The length was all wrong and Stirling is able to heave it over the leg side for another six.

We've got Sam Curran coming in here, he's got that really, really slow ball.

Ireland will be looking to make the most of the rest of the powerplay now.

Jacob Bethell knows that this captaincy is only for three games. He shouldn't stress too much about this stint.

Ross Adair crunches the ball out to long-off but there's a man on the fence so it'll just be a single.

Nine from Liam Dawson's first, a good over for Ireland.

Well struck, Paul Stirling certainly gave himself enough room there.

Paul Stirling just backed away there and did a little dummy charge, and got a back of the length from Liam Dawson. He's got to be aggressive here, this is the over to go at it.

  17. 6 runs

    Ire 23-0published at 3.2 overs

An early look at spin as Liam Dawson comes into the attack.

Paul Stirling is determined to get after the left-armer, though, and backs away to give himself room before launching the ball high over wide long-off.

The first six of the day!

Ross Adair seems to be finding most parts of the bat other than the middle at the moment. He is overswinging but he's just trying to get Ireland off to a good start here.

Once he's settles in a bit he'll be fine.

Ross Adair is not a great man of technique but he's very good at getting ball to bat. He's very much an instinct player.

  20. Ire 16-0published at 3 overs

    Good over from Luke Wood.

He makes a real effort to offer no width whatsoever outside off, keeping Ross Adair and Paul Stirling tucked up.

A mistimed pull from Adair brings him two to deep mid-wicket but it's just three from the over.
