I believe I can help with the cream in carbonara debate. If you put cream in, its not carbonara.

    Anon

Cream in a carbonara is an absolute no! Egg yolks, parmesan, loads of black pepper and a little dribble of pasta water.

Ben, currently working in Islington, wishing the rain away

If my grandmother had wheels she’d be a bike! Absolutely no place for cream in a carbonara. Prefer a spag bol anyway.

    Thanks, weather team.

However, BBC Sport's Matthew Henry informs me that it's "well set in drizzle - no prospects of change imminently."

So it's back to carbonaras for the time being.

But just got to Kensington High St and it's drizzling hard if that is possible.

    We have some weak sunshine.

Incidentally, my mother told me the other day that she'd run into my old food technology teacher and decided to inform her that I definitively couldn't cook.

Must have been a bitter blow to said teacher, after she sent me off into the world with an A after making a load of soups from Delia's cookbook.

Anyway, let's put a pause on that and go around our elite group of weather forecasters...

And now it's being discussed on the online desk.

My colleague Elizabeth Botcherby, who declared the other day she was heading home to make a carbonara, says it's an absolute no.

I'm undecided - is there cream in the tub from the supermarket?

The discussion among the TMS commentators off air has moved onto whether they put cream in their carbonara recipe.

Rain's stopped play at The Oval but the IPL final is under way in Ahmedabad.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been put in to bat by Punjab Kings.

Full commentary is available on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra 3, which you can follow here on the BBC Sport website or on BBC Sounds.

And we'll be providing over-by-over updates on that page, while I'll be staring mournfully at footage from The Oval over here.

No sign of movement at The Oval.

Not even an 82-year-old former Prime Minister scudding across the square.

    It's very damp out there.

While we're waiting for any news, let's enjoy Sherfane Rutherford's shot down the ground, just prior to the rain delay.

There's now plastic sheeting covering the entire width of The Oval.

I know what you're thinking - the ultimate slip and slide.

Get John Major out there, I believe the man can slide.

It’s just stopped raining here and looking a lot brighter.

    Richard in Walton on Thames

In fairness, it's probably cheaper to hire Richard in Hemel Hempstead for weather reporting than buying a weather radar. Would be good cost saving for the ECB.

I was initially thinking this might only be a brief delay but the rain has set in and it has got a lot gloomier.

In F1 they seem to know when rain is coming to the minute. But in cricket we seem to just rely on blokes like Richard in Hemel Hempstead (14:26) to provide us update.

Yes, because of the delay in starting we've used up all our spare time in the match.

So this rain delay will see us lose overs and DLS will be used in anger for the first time in this international summer.

We believe the delay because West Indies got stuck in traffic earlier means we are now already losing overs.

Ah, hold on, the players are walking off and umbrellas are going up in the stands.

The covers are coming on at The Oval with the anticipated rain arriving.

A first sight of spin for England as Will Jacks replaces Brydon Carse.

The first three balls of the over are run-less, the last three go for a trio of singles.

    The players will take drinks.

    Lovely shot.

Sherfane Rutherford times Saqib Mahmood's delivery nicely, sending the ball racing away down the ground for four.

That also brings up the fifty partnership from 44 balls.

  20. WI 73-3published at 13 overs

Four singles off Carse's fifth over.

We're now being shown Trevor McDonald and John Major in the stands.

Both knights of the realm, yes, but have they ever won a British Soap Award?

    I think not.
