He got some decent swing in the first innings, without always getting the line right.

    Glos 516 v Kent 424 & 135-4 - lead by 43 runs

Kent must have thought they were set fair when they recovered from 137-6 to post 424 in their first innings thanks to an excellent seventh wicket partnership of 264 runs between Grant Stewart (182) and Chris Benjamin (93).

But Gloucestershire's 516 in reply, led by Cameron Green's 128 and James Bracey's 127 swung the momentum back in the home side's favour as they chase a first home win since September 2022.

Things got even better yesterday evening for the hosts as Kent slipped to 135-4 at the close of play.

The visitors might need some more heroics from the lower order to avoid defeat and keep Gloucestershire waiting for that elusive victory on their own turf.

It promises to be a fascinating day in Bristol.

  8. 'It's set up to be a good last day'published at 10:56 British Summer Time

    Lancs 458 & 141-6 v Derbys 314

Derbyshire spinner Jack Morley needs two more wickets for just a second first-class five-wicket haul, having already hit 41 runs in the first knock.

If Lancashire continue to attack, he may well be in business, and is not ruling out a successful chase when the hosts do declare - or are bowled out.

“It’s all set up to be a really good last day," he said.

"If you set straight fields, it’s quite hard to get away and you just have to wait for the bad ball.

“But with the boundaries being a little bit smaller and the outfield quick, that could end up in our favour going into a chase."

He added: “Taking five wickets here hasn’t occurred to me but it could be a really good finish to the game tomorrow.”

  9. Red Rose favourites, but all results on the tablepublished at 10:55 British Summer Time

    Lancs 458 & 141-6 v Derbys 314

All results remain possible as we head into the final day of an intriguing match at Old Trafford.

After a glacial first day, the match has moved on apace with Derbyshire refusing to let the Red Rose race away into the distance.

Attacking batting from the tail saw the visitors avoid the dreaded follow-on, ceding a 144 run first innings deficit after James Anderson picked up three wickets on his return.

And the Derbyshire bowlers maintained the momentum as the hosts looked for rapid runs - on a tricky pitch to score quickly.

After Luke Wells (50) took Lancashire to 62-0, three wickets from Jack Morley has helped reduce the home side to 141-6 at the close.

They lead by 285 with Derbyshire likely to be batting before lunch.

  10. 'We have to bat as we have done'published at 10:52 British Summer Time

    Durham 664 v Notts 407 & 67-1 - trail by 190

You could forgive Liam Patterson-White a few groans as he climbed from his bed this morning.

The Notts all-rounder got through 50 overs of toil over the previous two days, but may well have work to do with the bat.

"Coming here, we sort of knew what the conditions and the wicket would be like. We were well prepared for what they produced," he said.

"Obviously we saw on the first day that it was green, that piqued our interest a little bit but it's relatively flat here all the time, we knew it was going to be a good batting wicket.

Both teams have batted pretty well on it, so we've got to come back tomorrow and bat as we have done."

Championship leaders Nottinghamshire have work to do if they're to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

The combination of a docile pitch and a good batting display saw Durham bat the visitors out of the game and leave them a tricky task to salvage a draw.

Ollie Robinson (141), Graham Clark (121) and Emilio Gay (104) all showed what can be done on this pudding of a pitch as they took Durham past Notts' below-par total and into a 257-run lead.

The visitors did chip off 67 off the deficit in the 16 overs before stumps but not without damage, losing key batter Haseeb Hameed to a pacey spell from Brydon Carse.

The Notts skipper contributed more than half of their first innings total and will need his team-mates to step up as the Durham attack, hunting a second win, pile on the pressure.

  12. Surrey closing in on win over Yorkshirepublished at 10:42 British Summer Time

    Surrey 512 v Yorkshire 255 & 185-6 - trail by 72 runs

Surrey players celebrate taking a wicket against YorkshireImage source, Getty Images

Surrey posted a huge total of 512 in response to Yorkshire's first innings score of 255 to put themselves on top on day three.

The visitors looked to be digging in and frustrating the hosts with a third-wicket stand of 84 between James Wharton and Jonny Bairstow.

But since Wharton was bowled by Matt Fisher, Yorkshire have wobbled and slumped to 185-6 - still trailing Surrey by 72 runs at the close of play on Sunday.

Bairstow has flown along to 64 off 66 balls but the Yorkshire skipper is going to need to stay in the middle for as long as possible and hope he can get support from the lower order to drag it out.

If Surrey can pick up four wickets for less than 72 runs, it'll be done and dusted. The first target for Yorkshire is forcing Surrey to bat again. We shall see...

Welcome along to our coverage of the fourth and final day of this round of County Championship action.

Yesterday in Division One we saw three games won inside three days as Somerset beat Sussex, Hampshire got the better of Warwickshire, and Worcestershire picked up their first victory of the campaign with a big 225-run win over Essex.

In Division Two Leicestershire eased to victory over Middlesex and Glamorgan wrapped up a win over Northants late into the evening.

So that means we still have four exciting fixtures to bring you as Surrey look to close out victory over Yorkshire, and Notts look set to have to dig in against Durham after their mammoth total.

There's also Sir James Anderson in action for Lancashire who are in a good position against Derbyshire and Gloucestershire against Kent so let's settle in for all the action.
