    Target 164

Jonny Bairstow is in at three.

Frustration for Phil Salt, who looked in the mood for another match-winning effort. Everything came out the middle of the bat.

He was almost at full length there. Phil Salt would have felt that ball was there to be hit, but he just didn't get the elevation. He's chuntering to himself as he walks off.

Incredible catch! Phil Salt laced it and Reeza Hendricks might not have done much with the bat today but he's done something for his team there. It's a screamer.

The perfect response! We've been treated to some cracking catches already today and Reeza Hendricks adds another to the showreel.

It was fuller from Rabada and tempted Salt into the big, booming drive. He gets hold of it, lovely timing, but Reeza Hendricks leaps to his left and plucks it out of the air. He does well to hang on while hitting the turf, and that was going very quickly indeed.

Stay tuned for the clip of that one.

There is a real difference in intent from Phil Salt compared to Reeza Hendricks. It puts the bowler under pressure and you know if you miss Salt will hit you. It just makes you tense up a little as a bowler.

  6. Eng 15-0published at 1.4 overs

Pressure on Rabada. He doesn't want to bowl into Salt's hitting arc, triyng to go straight, but he strays down the leg side for a couple of wides.

  7. Eng 13-0published at 1.3 overs

    He's in the mood, alright.

Phil Salt whacks Kagiso Rabada straight down the ground for four.

England's two openers will have more intent from the get-go than the South Africa openers showed initially. These two will try and whack it and the others that come after will too.

Jos Buttler gets off the mark with an easy single to mid-off.

    Solid start from England's openers.

Phil Salt must have a trampoline on his thigh pad because that has really flown.

Jansen with a loosener down the leg side that Phil Salt tries to help on its way but it ricochets off the thigh pad and into the hands of short fine leg.

Cries of "catch it", but Salt remained calm.

England will be looking for a quick start. We know how they like to approach things, it is pretty gung-ho from the start.

This South Africa attack has some real superstars in it though.

Right, time to find out whether the South Africa bowlers have learned from their batters. They are a formidable and intelligent attack when they're at their best.

Phil Salt was the match-winner against West Indies in the impressive win a couple of days ago, and he's joined by captain Buttler.

Marco Jansen has the ball in hand.

It looked like England were going to be chasing a total of 200 or so after Quinton de Kock's electric start but he played a lone hand, the only batter to look really solid out there.

David Miller added 43 from 28 in the end but it took him a while to get going, as England's spinners led the fightback in the middle overs and then Jofra Archer recovered from his expensive first over.

    Cheers, Tom.

Well, David Miller says South Africa are happy with their total but Steven Finn says they're under par. That sets us up nicely.

It was a curious innings, we're yet to find out if it is a good score, but England were absolutely brilliant in the field with the skipper leading from the front.

South Africa are under-par here, despite it being a little slow-ish. Quinton de Kock and David Miller have shown us there are runs to be had.

England have had a very good first half of the game.

  20. '160 is a good total'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 21 June

South Africa batter David Miller: "It was nice to get some runs and some time in the middle. We went into a bit of a hole in the middle there but I think that's down to the conditions. The guys played really well up top to get us off to a good start and I think 160 is a good total out there.

"I thought I hit it pretty well but didn't quite get the trajectory and it was a great catch from him. That's how cricket goes!

"It started off pretty nicely, the ball coming on to the bat but then it just got slower and slower as the innings went on."
