I love this attitude form New Zealand, its almost as if they've been told "go out there, hit it where you want."

  3. NZ 43-1published at 6 overs

Nonkululeko Mlaba continues to slow things down with her left-arm spin before Suzie Bates shuffles across her stumps and sweeps for four.

A very good powerplay for New Zealand but they haven't got away from South Africa yet. Their spinners have got an important role to play in these upcoming middle overs.

    Brilliant from Tryon.

New Zealand have been particularly aggressive here which is good to see.

  7. NZ 34-1published at 4 overs

Bates and Kerr rotate the strike well off Ayabonga Khaka, who errs in length from the final ball for Bates to pull for four more.

New Zealand's positive start continues. Time for some pace off the ball as Chloe Tryon comes into the attack.

These sides have got very definite plans.

  9. NZ 24-1published at 3 overs

Melie Kerr is bowled from the free hit so Kapp gets away with it, and then ends the over with a dot ball.

  10. NZ 24-1published at 2.4 overs

Marizanne Kapp starts her second over with three dots to Suzie Bates.

Bates then cuts the third delivery just past a diving fielder at point, before skewing the next just out of reach of cover.

But then... it's called a no-ball. Kapp is seething as she has given away a free hit just as the pressure was building.

One violent shot too many. South Africa are delighted, they've broken the opening partnership that has proved to be so stubborn.

    South Africa hold their nerve.

Georgia Plimmer tries to maintain the positive start but Ayabonga Khaka is just relentless with her discipline.

Plimmer chips the ball high in the air and the experienced Sune Luus does well at long-on. It's a simple chance but given the dropped catches in this tournament so far, it's a good effort.

It's a wonderful start from New Zealand. South Africa will have to be very careful to not let the nerves take over.

  17. NZ 13-0published at 1.1 overs

This is the most explosive start we've seen from New Zealand throughout the tournament, and what a time to deliver.

Suzie Bates launches another boundary past mid-on, where Tazmin Brits puts in a solid dive but can't gather the ball cleanly and it trickles over.
