Joe Root may just be getting a little uncomfortable.

He needs to get these 12 runs pretty sharpish.

    What a review!

It is the faintest of faint edges on snicko but that is all it needs to send Matthew Potts on his way.

    The bowler really likes it.

Potts doesn't look too bothered and I didn't hear anything.

  5. Sri Lanka reviewpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 31 August

Has Matthew Potts feathered that one?

It is another short leg-side delivery from Asitha Fernando and not the most convincing appeal, but Dhananjaya de Silva decides to send it upstairs.

With Sri Lanka staring down the barrel of a run-chase approaching 500, they might be thinking back to their decision to field first at the toss. WG Grace wouldn't have made that decision...

Oh, I could definitely get on board with that.

I'm at the stage of my life, Aggers, where I'm being asked if I fancy a game of walking football.

    Root 87, Potts 1

Joe Root helps himself to a couple of twos with powerful sweeps to the mid-wicket boundary.

Root is just 13 away from a record-breaking century.

  10. How's stat?!published at 14:32 British Summer Time 31 August

    Andy Zaltzman
    Statistician on Test Match Special

Joe Root now has over 2,000 runs at Lord's, it's the sixth time that has been done at one specific ground.

Graham Gooch also had over 2,000 here. The others are Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene in Colombo, Jayawardene also did it at Galle and Jacques Kallis scored more than 2,000 at Cape Town.

Matthew Potts is the new batter.

Joe Root is running out of partners here.

I've seen some wickets in my time but that one is certainly up there! It's bizarre!

Jacques Kallis didn't play many like that, let me tell you.

  13. wicket

    Atkinson c Kumara b Fernando 14 (Eng 220-7)

There will not be many more Jacques Kallis comparisons with shots like that. That was extraordinary.

I think it was an attempted reverse pull that top-edges over the wicketkeeper's head and straight to the fielder patrolling the boundary at third man.

I saw some posts on social media asking whether Gus Atkinson could be the next Jacques Kallis.

He played beautifully in the first innings here but I think that might be a bit of a jump!

This was how Chris Woakes fell a few moments ago.

Not the finest shot he will ever play.

But surely, with so much time left in the game, they can allow him to get there when he's playing like this.

Joe Root was trying to put that into the tavern. The declaration comes first, as much as we like to romanticise these personal milestones.

  18. Eng 214-6published at 44 overs

Joe Root has definitely got a message that the clock is ticking.

He attempts a huge attempted heave out of the ground, before a streaky sweep top-edge flies into the air but lands safely and England run two.

The Lord's museum is like Disneyland for cricket fans. I've already mentioned a couple of items which caught my eye, and this one is to do with England's man of the moment Gus Atkinson.

The shirt he wore for his 10-fer against the West Indies earlier this summer is on display. They'll want yesterday's shirt off his back next..

  20. Eng 208-6published at 43 overs

Asitha Fernando does dish out some stuff, but Joe Root and Gus Atkinson are not afraid to take it on.

Root moves on to 78. Are we on century watch before a declaration?

    England's lead is 439.
