Summary

  1. dropped catch

    Close!published at 2.4 overs

    USA 20-0

Where's the other slip? Gap between keeper and second, think edge from Monank, Pakistan just watch it fly for four.

Any width from Shaheen and they are going to swing for it.

  3. USA 16-0published at 2.3 overs

    Target 160

This is better from Shaheen, at least to the left-handed Taylor. When right-hander Monank is on strike, Shaheen drifts down the leg side.

The openers look confident. They don't look fazed by the occasion.

  5. USA 14-0published at 2 overs

    Target 160

Decent start for the US. Wickets in hand will be key.

Mohammad Amir can still generate plenty of swing which makes him effective even though he's lost some pace, but his radar has been all over the place.

  7. USA 14-0published at 1.5 overs

    Target 160

This has sped away to the rope. Monank gives himself room and gets it off the toe, past point and for four.

It's been a wayward start from Pakistan.

  9. USA 8-0published at 1 over

    Target 160

Now Mohammad Amir starts with two wides. It's been pretty poor from Pakistan.

  10. USA 6-0published at 1 over

    Target 160

Shaheen got away with a couple there, especially a wild full toss. Loose.

That was right in Steven Taylor's swinging arc.

    A gift.

  12. USA 5-0published at 0.3 overs

    Target 160

Crunched. Poor delivery from Shaheen, a full toss, and left-hander Taylor whacks it through the covers.

  13. USA 0-0published at 0.2 overs

Shaheen Afridi has the ball, Steven Taylor and Monank Patel are opening for the US. Two slips in place.

  14. USA need 160 to winpublished at 18:30 British Summer Time 6 June 2024

The USA were excellent, but 160 still seems like a stiff target to me. There are four quality seamers in the Pakistan side and the US have only ever made 160 twice in the second innings of a T20, regardless on the result. Still, the US are right in it.

This is set up pretty nicely, and here are the USA openers.

And here comes Stephan Shemilt to take you through the first 10 overs of their chase.

Babar Azam battled through for 44, while Shadab Khan's more explosive 40 led a recovery with a stand of 72.

Shaheen Afridi's cameo of 23 from 16 balls including two sixes then gave Pakistan the momentum as they head out to defend their competitive total.

It was a shambolic start for Pakistan as they slipped to 26-3, struggling to adapt to the slow-ish pitch and USA's disciplined bowling.

Mohammad Rizwan couldn't do much about his, a cracking catch from Steven Taylor that you'll want to watch over and over again, but the others were pretty daft shots.

USA spinner Noshtush Kenjige: "It's half a job that we have done. It's a very good pitch and we are looking forward to the second innings.

"We know Pakistan are dangerous but believe in our abilities. All of our bowlers had plans and executed them to perfection.

"We'll have to bat well but I know we can do this."

Regardless of how this match ends up, that is a really commendable performance from the USA.
