New Zealand began brightly, but three wickets in an over for Sarah Glenn (3-16) killed off any hope they might have had of chasing it down.

England's victory was a formality from that point.

  4. Postpublished at 17:52 British Summer Time 6 July

A quick reminder of the key moments then.

Danni Wyatt's 76 and 47 from Nat Sciver-Brunt did the major damage for England with the bat.

A total of 197-3 was always going to be formidable.

  5. 'Start as we mean to go on'published at 17:48 British Summer Time 6 July

More from England captain Heather Knight on her side's batting: "I thought we started with real intent and carried it throughout. We were smart with the wind. It was a bit of a strange one with it swirling round a bit.

"We had Freya Kemp as the left-hander and she did a really good job. The batters are fine. It's quite entertaining. We have started how we mean to go on in the series."

  6. 'We have so many options'published at 17:46 British Summer Time 6 July

England captain Heather Knight: "It was probably up there in terms of completeness, a few dropped catches aside. We really wanted to attack the game and start the T20 series exactly how we did in the one-day series.

"Obviously we tried something different with four spinners but it's great to have so many options, with players on the bench as well. We are starting to build really good options we can use at different times.

"Four spinners? It's definitely an option we are looking at. It's the first time we have tried it today. It relies on the all-rounder and Freya Kemp's figures didn't show how she bowled. She was outstanding having been away from bowling with a back injury. She was really good and especially at the death."

  7. 'My dismissal was horrendous'published at 17:40 British Summer Time 6 July

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine: "I thought England put a really competitive score on the board and it was just too much for us today. You have to take the game on if you need 10 an over from the start of the innings and I thought Suzie Bates laid a really good platform there but it was disappointing to not build on that. Jess Kerr batted fantastically at the end and it shows that if you can stick at it for long enough we can put pressure on. But, again, there were too many mistakes in the field and with the bat, so credit to England.

"We're pretty clear on what they are going to bowl at us so it is up to us to play to our strengths and I guess negate what they are trying to bring. We're going to have to go and look in the mirror and figure out how we're going to play against it because it's only going to get tougher from here but we've still got real belief that we can get a win from this series.

"My dismissal today was horrendous. As captain I've got to lead from the front and it was appalling so I've got to take on the chin and lead by example and today I didn't do that. We've all got to shape up and do a better job. We're showing glimpses but we need consistent performances playing against a side like England."

  8. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 6 July

Player of the match Danni Wyatt: "I am just trying to stay calm at all times and back myself. It's usually a good wicket here. That's what T20 cricket is all about. I was supported well by Maia Bouchier at the top and Nat Sciver-Brunt came in and does what she does.

"It was just after drinks and it seemed to fly with the wind. That big six I hit in the seats was supposed to go over mid-off so I just went with it. Did I think it was going for six for my wicket? It was going with the wind but it went a bit too high.

"T20 you get ups and downs. You just have to keep enjoying it I guess."

It is a tough one to take for New Zealand. They made some improvements in the ODI seris and you would expect this to have then been closer. They would have hoped it did a little bit more after winning the toss.

The bowlers may not have adjusted as well as they could have done but the way that England's batters came out and batted was fantastic. It was the blueprint for how to build an innings and every side in the world will be aiming for that.

Nat Sciver-Brunt looks like the best player in the world.

There are a lot of questions for New Zealand. What does their bowling attack look like? How do they find breakthroughs? How can they find control? Then it leaves you with a huge chase but to limp to 138-9 will be disappointing.

That 19th over had a little bit of everything for Linsey Smith but she's finally got her wicket. I'm lost for words after that over to be honest.

Finally one his held! At the fifth time of asking.

There's still time for Freya Kemp to manage a fourth drop before Jess Kerr is finally dismissed, this time Nat Sciver-Brunt clinging on at long on.

What is happening from England in this over? That is just catching practice for Nat Sciver-Brunt really. It is like she isn't really expecting it.

  19. dropped catch

Three dropped catches in an overpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 6 July

Jess Kerr pings once through the hands of Linsey Smith from the first ball of her over. She picks up a couple of runs.

Two balls later and England skipper Heather Knight puts Kerr down with a diving one-handed attempt in the covers.

Then off the fourth ball Nat Sciver-Brunt lets one slip through her hands on the boundary and Lea Tahuhu is put down.

Jess Kerr's batting style isn't textbook but it does give her a lovely free swing at the ball.
