'What a catch!' - Root dismisses Hurst

  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 86 balls left

    Root c Buttler b Baker 4 (Rockets 21-1)

    Skied... and caught!

Joe Root goes to ramp over fine-leg but is perhaps hurried a bit by Sonny Baker's pace - he sends the ball almost straight up.

Jos Butter runs away from his wicket and claims the catch.

Root's third single-figure score of the season, with further innings of 20 and 27.

This is a brilliant effort from Rachin Ravindra. He just sticks up the one mit, but he doesn't time his jump right.

  3. dropped catch

Banton dropped on ninepublished at 10 balls

    Rockets 20-0; 79 runs needed

    Rachin Ravindra can't hold on!

Tom Banton drives Josh Tongue's penultimate delivery into the covers and the New Zealand international leaps to try and take the catch, but his jump is perhaps slightly mistimed.

He gets his left hand to the ball but can't hold on, and Banton runs a single to move to 10.

Joe Root then adds two more through third, adjusting out of a scoop position to meet Tongue's delivery.

Exceptional from Tom Banton. You can hear Joe Root through the stump mic saying, "Shot".

  6. Rockets 15-0published at 94 balls left

    84 runs needed

Make that back-to-back fours for Tom Banton as Josh Tongue comes on to bowl.

A punchy drive through mid-off - no stopping that.

  7. Rockets 11-0published at 95 balls left

    88 runs needed

Tom Banton closes Sonny Baker's first set by easing the ball through the covers for four.

It's a strong start for the home side.

Not the start you want when you need to build pressure.

There's been a lot of talk around Sonny Baker with the England call-up...

  9. Rockets 5-0published at 100 balls left

    94 runs needed

    Time to get going.

Trent Rockets opener Tom Banton is marking his guard - he'll face the man of the moment, new England call-up Sonny Baker.

Joe Root is at the non-striker's end, here we go... five wides down the leg side.

Not the best start, it's fair to say.

I get really excited when I see guys running hard into the crease.

Sonny Baker has got the skills as well.

Having that wide range of skills makes him an exciting prospect.

What Rehan Ahmed did was bowl a lot of variations. Every single one of the balls was on the stumps.

What I really like is he adapts his game. He bowled really well in the conditions.

Meanwhile David Willey operates around the 80mph, but he reads the conditions really well.

Willey kept it simple, but he was outstanding.

    Thanks Ffion.

I suppose the open question is just how difficult the pitch is - a few early wickets and maybe, just maybe, Manchester Originals might have a small chance of turning this around.

WinViz has the Trent Rockets as big favourites, though.

The home side dominated from the very beginning, set up by David Willey's 3-11 inside the first 30 balls.

He got rid of Ben McKinney, Jos Buttler and Rachin Ravindra before Rehan Ahmed got Phil Salt and Heinrich Klaasen, and there was no chance of the Originals recovering.

It's clearly not a nice pitch for batting, but Trent Rockets should still get a pretty straightforward victory. Here's Mike Peter to take you through the chase.

Trent Rockets, up until those last five balls, were outstanding.

  15. Originals 98-8published at 100 balls

A bit of confusion at the end as Lewis Gregory is caught off the free hit, which obviously doesn't count, but there's a subsequent check for a run out... but Josh Tongue is safe.

Gregory finishes unbeaten with 34 from 21 balls but that does little to rescue the Manchester Originals.

Trent Rockets need 99 runs to win.

  16. 6 runs

    Originals 97-8published at 99 balls

    Six, four... and it's a no-ball!

More precious runs from Lewis Gregory as Originals, from nowhere, might make it to three figures!

  17. Originals 83-8published at 97 balls

Valuable runs for Lewis Gregory here, as he reverse sweeps the rapid Lockie Ferguson for four!

  18. 'That could be the difference'published at 19:40 British Summer Time

Trent Rockets' Joe Root on the player mic about Sam Hain stopping the boundary: "That saved us four runs. That could be the difference at the back end of the game."

  19. Originals 77-8published at 93 balls

    Brilliant.

Almost another six for Gregory but Sam Hain intercepts it on the boundary with a goalkeeper-like leap, and parries it inside the ropes to keep it to two.

Beautiful stroke from Lewis Gregory. Deep in the crease and a lovely bat speed.
