    Rahul c Salt b Overton 10 (Ind 275-5)

    That's out, though.

KL Rahul goes to pull Jamie Overton, managing only to glove behind to Phil Salt.

The England keeper takes the catch high above his head, staggering backwards a touch.

  4. Not outpublished at 40 overs

    Ind 275-4

    Well, neither's on.

Nothing on the bat for the catch and Livingstone's delivery pitched outside leg, so no lbw.

    Axar survives on 30.

    Four and out?

    Possibly.

Axar drops to a knee to lash Livingstone over mid-wicket and goes for a similar shot from the following delivery.

Livingstone's delivery thuds against the pads and spoons behind to wicketkeeper Phil Salt. Given out but Axar sends it upstairs.

We'll review both a caught and an lbw.

  6. Ind 268-4published at 39 overs

Jamie Overton back into the attack with Adil Rashid done for the day.

KL Rahul, in after the Iyer dismissal, smacks his second ball away to the fine leg boundary for four.

    A short ball, dispatched well.

The only real interest is in trying to guess in which over India will win, and whether it will be by seven wickets or fewer. Seriously though, they could hit 400 with ease - 250-3 after 35 overs. In a different class and at a different level to the tedious tourists.

  8. Ind 261-4published at 38 overs

    44 needed from 72 balls

Liam Livingstone's parsimonious evening continues, conceding three singles from his sixth over.

Adil Rashid, meanwhile finished with figures of 1-78 from his ten overs.

Since the end of the 2023 ODI World Cup, England batters have hit 23 fifty-plus scores with just three hundreds. Their conversion rate of 13% is the fourth-lowest amongst full member nations after Zimbabwe (four fifties, zero hundreds), Australia (10 fifties, one hundred) and Bangladesh (16 fifties, two hundreds).

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 38 overs

Iyer run out (Buttler) 44 (Ind 258-4)

    Well, that was unnecessary.

Axar Patel hits Rashid's final delivery to mid-wicket and barely moves, but Shreyas Iyer absolutely hares out his ground at the non-striker's end.

Jos Buttler throws to Rashid on the bounce and the England spinner takes the bails off with Iyer well short of his ground.

  11. Ind 253-3published at 36 overs

    52 needed from 84 balls

Axar brings up India's 250, knocking Liam Livingstone's delivery down to long-on for a single.

Everything ticking along rather sedately from Livingstone's end - he's conceded 19 from his five overs, with just one boundary.

In the desperate search for positives on an otherwise bleak afternoon, England’s fielding has held up terrifically well.

  13. Ind 248-3published at 35 overs

    Swept away.

Adil Rashid returns and Axar Patel whips his second ball off to the boundary.

11 runs come from the over - including a two apiece for each batter out to point.

Give our guys a break. Rohit is one of the great ODI openers of all time. He's playing magnificently. Quit the moaning and savour this.

...and just three more singles from Livingstone's fourth over.

Up goes that required run-rate, soon it'll be England's game to lose.

    Right?

Saqib Mahmood continues with the first over after drinks.

Axar hits his first two balls through the covers for two, and a couple of singles follow.

With all the criticism that England and Buttler are getting, credit to India for going about playing great cricket and taking control.

The genius of Rohit Sharma. England had no answers. Really incredible shots, a touch of class, another fantastic innings from him.

That was terrific work from Mahmood and he’s been let down by Salt who really should have taken that throw cleanly.

  20. drinks break

    Ah, there's that boundary.

Liam Livingstone sends down a rank short ball and Axar smacks it away through square leg for his first boundary.

He should be gone later in the over though afer Iyer cuts to backward point and calls his team-mate through for a quick single.

There's some strong fielding from Saqib Mahmood out there and Axar should be in trouble, but Phil Salt spills the ball in front of the stumps.

The players will take drinks with India well on top.
