Summary

  1. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 92 balls

    Clarke c Roy b Archer 36 (Phoenix 95-7)

Well, the intent was there from Joe Clarke. Sadly, the execution wasn't. He only had one hand in his bat as he connected with the ball and could only direct it to a waiting Jason Roy in the covers.

Proactive captaincy from James Vince on display again here. After Chris Jordan's set went for 13 runs, Vince brought back his ace bowler Jofra Archer, who set up the set with high pace for the first four balls and then bowled a back-of-the-hand slower ball - 17 mph slower than his previous delivery - to dismiss Liam Livingstone.

Vince followed it up with a set from Michael Bracewell for the left-handed Dan Mousley, and then brought on slow left-armer James Coles to bowl to the right-handed duo Aneurin Donald and Joe Clarke, successfully removing the former.

  3. Phoenix 95-6published at 90 balls

With 10 balls remaining, probably bowled by Jofra Archer and Tymal Mills, it's time for Benny Howell and Joe Clarke to just swing for the hills.

Ideally, half of these deliveries need to go to the boundary to give Birmingham Phoenix anything close to an okay total.

If Joe Clarke can find a few more boundaries, there could be hope for Birmingham Phoenix.

  5. Phoenix 92-6published at 87 balls

A welcome boundary from Joe Clarke, taking Tymal Mills for four through the off-side.

  6. Phoenix 86-6published at 85 balls

Birmingham Phoenix are creeping up towards three figures with Benny Howell and Joe Clarke adding four singles.

James Coles finishes with fine figures of 1-17. Lovely bowling.

Birmingham Phoenix are falling in a heap here. They're going to need to rise from some pretty bleak ashes. This has been a comprehensive bowling performance from Southern Brave. It was another shot of uncertainty and timidity and maybe some incompetence.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Rockets v Superchargers

    Gardner c Wareham b Ballinger 61 (Rockets 94-5)

The end of a fantastic knock from Ash Gardner.

The Aussie falls trying to hammer the ball over the deep mid-wicket boundary, not timed badly but just didn't have the distance and Georgia Wareham takes a straightforward catch.

A first wicket for Superchargers left-armer Grace Ballinger today and the Rockets have 25 balls to get themselves up to decent total - they'll want 130 or so from here.

  9. Phoenix 82-6published at 80 balls

With 20 balls remaining, Phoenix are 82-6. What can Benny Howell and Joe Clarke do here?

James Coles is going to bowl another five-ball set.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 77 balls

    Donald b Coles 2 (Phoenix 80-6)

Bowled 'im! James Coles joins in the wicket-taking fun as Aneurin Donald makes a hash of a big sweep and has his stumps rearranged.

    Deary me.

  11. Pheonix 78-5published at 75 balls

There was a strategic time-out before Michael Bracewell's third set.

I'm guessing losing another wicket wasn't the message sent out to Phoenix...

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 74 balls

Mousley st Evans b Bracewell 2 (Phoenix 78-5)

    Michael Bracewell has three.

Dan Mousley steps down, swings, misses, and has his bails whipped off by Laurie Evans, who is having a solid day with the gloves.

Will Phoenix make it above 100?

  13. 50 runs

50 for Ash Gardnerpublished at Rockets v Superchargers

    Rockets 83-4

Ash Gardner was on the charge prior to the strategic timeout but the break has done little to slow her momentum.

She thumps her ninth boundary of the innings to bring up a half-century from just 26 balls.

After a nightmare start for the Rockets, the skipper is taking them up to a decent total.

As soon as that came off the bat I thought it was a six. The width of this ground is so huge and so much shorter in length that those slower balls are difficult to get away from. Liam Livingstone couldn't quite get the elevation and the distance across this wide surface to get it away for six.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 70 balls

    Livingstone c Coles b Archer 12 (Phoenix 75-4)

James Vince deserves a round of applause for these bowling changes.

He turns back to Jofra Archer to halt any momentum swinging in Phoenix's favour after that expensive set from Chris Jordan and the quick delivers.

He concedes a single and two byes from his first four deliveries before having Liam Livingstone caught on the boundary by James Coles. At a smaller ground, that would've made it over the rope for six. Instead, he's picked out Coles at deep backward square.

A really good shot from Clarke, he didn't overhit the ball. Not the name in this line-up you'd think would be the most destructive.

  17. Phoenix 72-3published at 65 balls

Chris Jordan shakes his head as he completes his set. It was a loose five and Joe Clarke punished it.

13 runs added, including three boundaries from Clarke.

  18. Phoenix 72-3published at 64 balls

Four more Joe Clarke! He pulls a short delivery from Chris Jordan and the ball speeds away to the rope. Jofra Archer, fielding on the rope, barely has time to set off.

  19. Phoenix 68-3published at 63 balls

    Back-to-back boundaries from Joe Clarke!

He pulls Chris Jordan for four and adds another down the ground.

I'm not sure how much confidence Livingston has in the rest of the batting order. I think he's decided that he's going to have to drop anchor a little bit to make sure the lower half of the order aren't too exposed for the next 30-40 balls
