I think 150 or 160 would be a good score for Phoenix today from what we saw on this surface earlier today.

  2. Phoenix 34-1published at 30 balls

Jacob Bethell, carded at six, comes in at three. He's quickly up and running with a single.

Will Smeed finishes the set with two, dot, three.

A strong start with the ball from Chris Jordan.

Chris Jordan liked that. That's what you want from your first ball. A disappointing end for Ben Duckett, he tried to play every shot in his repertoire but the ball's just hit the edge and carried through nicely to Laurie Evans. A bit of a mixed bag for Birmingham Phoenix so far.

Chris Jordan strikes with his first delivery of the match!

Ben Duckett edges through to wicketkeeper Laurie Evans and departs for a frustrating 20 (21).

Duckett glares at the pitch and slowly stalks off. Jordan is giddy.

That's a proper cricket shot from Ben Duckett. A shorter delivery from Jamie Overton but it didn't have the pace or bounce of the previous two.

  6. Phoenix 28-0published at 25 balls

Ben Duckett really is throwing the kitchen sink at Southern Brave's bowlers.

He pulls and misses at a short delivery, which a leaping Laurie Evans takes one-handed behind the stumps. He follows it up with a bizarre failed scoopy thing. And then finds success with a pull for four.

At the end of the powerplay, Birmingham Phoenix are 28-0 - a better position than on Friday, when they were 24-3 at the same stage against Trent Rockets.

  7. wicket

    Scrivens c Sutherland b Cross 1 (Rockets 5-3)

Goodness me, it goes from bad to worse for Trent Rockets.

It's a binary top three with all of them gone for one. Grace Scrivens is the latest to go, chipping the ball to Annabel Sutherland at mid-off to give Kate Cross her first wicket.

Northern Superchargers can hardly believe their luck but the big test for them will come now as they try to maintain this fantastic start up against a high-class pairing of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Ash Gardner.

Ben Duckett seems to be getting frustrated here with just a run a ball.

  9. Phoenix 24-0published at 20 balls

Ben Duckett attempts something funky against Jofra Archer, trying and failing to connect with a scoop.

Playing a conventional cut, he finally times one off his bat off the final ball of the set, piercing a gap in the covers and picking up three.

  10. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Rockets v Superchargers

    Wraith c Litchfield b L Smith 1 (Rockets 4-2)

Trent Rockets are in real trouble early on as Nat Wraith falls.

With runs proving hard to come by, the right-hander tries to force the issue against the left-arm spin of Linsey Smith.

Instead, after skipping down the track, she only manages to skew the ball to Phoebe Litchfield at cover.

With 12 balls gone, Nat Sciver-Brunt walks out to try and dig the Rockets out of this hole.

A good shot from Will Smeed. A bit fuller, he was able to climb into it. The fielder for Southern Brave could have possibly done a bit better for his bowler.

  12. Phoenix 20-0published at 15 balls

Will Smeed picks up his first boundary, driving Craig Overton for four. He follows it up with a quick single, almost daring fielder Leus du Plooy to have a crack at the stumps.

Ben Duckett goes down the ground to add another four to his tally.

It's a productive set for Phoenix, with nine coming from it.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Rockets v Superchargers

Smith run out (Wareham) 1 (Rockets 1-1)

    Brilliant start for Northern Superchargers!

They get rid of Bryony Smith just five balls into the innings after a fantastic piece of fielding from Georgia Wareham.

The Australian swooped from backward point and - with just one stump to aim at - got the direct hit as the Trent Rockets openers tried to sneak a quick single.

Smith well short of her ground as the bails light up.

  14. Phoenix 11-0published at 10 balls

Anguish is written across Jofra Archer's face as his third delivery beats Ben Duckett's bat.

After facing three dot balls from his England teammate, Duckett collects the first two boundaries of the day.

First. he pounces on a wider delivery from Archer and powers it over point. Then, he cuts away for four more.

The pitch was slightly slower towards the end of the women's game earlier on, a wicket that turned and offered a bit for the spinners. It will be interesting to see how much pace Jofra Archer can extract out of it. It will be interesting to see if spin comes in for the men's game as well.

  16. Phoenix 3-0published at 5 balls

Three singles to start things off for Birmingham Phoenix.

Both Will Smeed (2) and Ben Duckett (1) have improved on their scores from Friday against Trent Rockets.

Southampton cheers as Jofra Archer enters the bowling attack.

  17. Phoenix 1-0published at 1 ball

Will Smeed is immediately off the mark, dashing through for a quick single.

James Vince, fielding at mid-off, took aim at the stumps but his throw was off target. Smeed was safely home anyway.

For Southern Brave, Craig Overton can make an impact early with the ball. They have the pace of Tymal Mills too and James Coles is also a threat at times.

They have a really varied attack which is a worry if you are a Birmingham Phoenix fan.

    He will open the bowling.

The players are out in the middle, with Will Smeed and Ben Duckett opening the batting for Birmingham Phoenix.

Phoenix will be hoping for an improved performance with the bat from their top six. Smeed (1), Duckett (0), Aneurin Donald (6) and Jacob Bethell (5) were all dismissed for single-figure scores against Trent Rockets on Friday.
