It was initially a nervous chase with the bat as England Maia Bouchier struggled to hit the ball past the in-field. Alice Capsey made a breezy 19 before she offered a caught-and-bowled chance to Nadine de Klerk.

Cometh the hour, cometh two of England's most experienced players as Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt got down to business.

There was nothing hugely complicated about their approach - clinically punishing the bad ball, showing aggressive intent by coming down the pitch, and running well.

By the time a shattered Wyatt-Hodge was stumped England were within striking distance.

With four required off the final over - bowled by Ayabonga Khaka - Sciver-Brunt finished the game in style off the second ball of it dancing down and striking the ball crisply inside out over cover.

A quick reminder of what happened earlier.

England left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone underlined her quality yet again with two vital wickets for England - snaring South Africa's top scorer's in captain Laura Wolvaardt (42) and all-rounder Marizanne Kapp (26).

Some big hitting from Annerie Dercksen, who hacked 20* off 11 balls, helped South Africa post 124-6 - leaving England with a tricky chase.

  5. 'A proper job'published at 18:23 British Summer Time 7 October

More from Heather Knight on Danni Wyatt-Hodge: "You can see her getting frustrated out there, she's not used to scoring at an 100 strike rate but that's the way it is on these pitches. She did it brilliantly, you can always predict what she's going to do in the dug out. The way those two controlled it, the smartness, the physicality, it was a proper job."

Ahead of their next game: "We don't play till Sunday so it's a big break actually. A few are going out on the golf course tomorrow, we’ll go out and see what Dubai has to offer."

  6. 'Ecclestone back to her best'published at 18:21 British Summer Time 7 October

England captain Heather Knight on today's game: "Really controlled win, we really restricted them. It was better than the other day, it's a tricky chase out here. I though we controlled that chase really brilliantly, kept a calm and level head. That partnership of Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt-Hodge was brilliant to watch."

On England's spin bowlers: "Really pleased with our spinners, these are the sort of games I love captaining. The girls bowled outstandingly, Sophie Ecclestone is back to her best, she seems to get a little bounce, the only person who does here, another proper performance. I'm happy with our fielding as well, it's going to be key for us in these tight matches. I'm happy with our energy and intent in the field."

Heather Knight has just given her thoughts at the post-match presentation. We'll have them shortly.

Here's the winning moment from Nat Sciver-Brunt.

  8. 'Hard to bowl to England'published at 18:11 British Summer Time 7 October

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt: "Obviously very disappointed with the result. I think 10 to 20 more runs could have made it interesting and obviously we didn't take our chances in the field either. I thought the bowlers did well but we have to tighten up on those other two.

"I didn't think the wicket was as slow as the first few games here. We were talking about the 140 mark but had the period after the powerplay where we lost our way a little bit. If we could have started the big hitting a bit earlier that might have helped.

"I don't think you can ask for much more with the new ball. The spinners could have got a bit more control in the middle, but it's hard to bowl to these batters when they [England] have all the shots. I think all of them have all the shots so it's difficult to set fields.

"Obviously the next two are must-win games for us and both could be tough in these conditions so we will have to be on our A-game."

It's only good signs for England moving forward, they can't take their foot off the gas.

Scotland are a very proud nation but they will be playing in the day which we haven't seen yet

  10. 'We've adapted well'published at 18:04 British Summer Time 7 October

Player of the match Sophie Ecclestone: "It's quite exciting to keep breaking records but I just keep it simple and try to enjoy my cricket. It's massive for me to play with a smile on my face.

"It's always great to do it against the world's best and two big wickets in Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp I was happy. I'm glad we got the win.

"To have four spinners in the team I am very lucky. All of them are high-class players and we work as a unit so I am absolutely buzzing to play alongside them.

"Conditions are so different out here and we've been adapting really well. Nat Sciver-Brunt and Danni Wyatt-Hodge were both unbelievable with the bat. We have a bit of momentum, and need to keep that going now."

Great shot from Nat Sciver-Brunt. She's been amazing here today, playing with power. I've been really impressed with England's middle order here. We were really critical of them in the first game.
