    The 28-year-old hit seven boundaries in a fluent innings and fell just short the 50 mark.

    Fellow opener Prince Masvaure looks assured as he notches up his fourth half-century in Test cricket.

    However, rain has finally come in and that may be a good break for Zimbabwe as they look to rebuild.

    It looked a good toss to win but it hasn't gone to script for Ireland in the opening session at Stormont.

    The pitch looks benign but credit goes to impressive batting from Zimbabwe debutant Joylord Gumbie and Prince Masvaure.

    Ireland turned to spin in the run-up to lunch but a breakthrough remains elusive.

    There's a group of Zimbabwe supporters perched between the scoreboard and side-screen - they've been having a whale of a time, singing and dancing as they watch their team get off to a superb start.
