What India will do now is just adjust to the tempo.

They'll tick around at three or four an over and try and accelerate later on.

  2. Ind 35-3published at 9 overs

Matt Henry chucks in a decent yorker now which the left-handed Axar Patel does well to keep out. This opening pair of bowlers look the absolute business.

  3. Ind 33-3published at 8 overs

You might start revising your favourites for this tournament if New Zealand can keep this start up. They've been brilliant in the first 40 minutes.

It's an unbelievable catch, and Kohli is stood thinking how has that happened?

18 catches and only one drop in the Champions Trophy for New Zealand.

  5. Ind 32-3published at 7.4 overs

The ball was past Glenn Phillips. I have no idea how he caught that. We'll have the clip for you soon!

Getting Sharma and Kohli in consecutive overs is a pretty good spell for any team.

As good as it gets. Straight out of the Jonty Rhodes textbook.

I can't believe it, we saw it in the opening game from Phillips.

Kohli got low on the shot so it got the elevation.

    What a catch!

My goodness, another screamer. How has he done that?

    There is silence.

    WHAT a catch!

WOW wow wow, that is something else by Glenn Phillips. Virat Kohli creams a shot through point/gully, it looks and sounds like four all the way but Phillips takes off and makes a stunning one-handed catch before clinging on as he hits the deck.

    Literally silences the ground.

  13. Ind 30-2published at 6.3 overs

Virat Kohli again miscues a drive a touch but finds the gap for a couple. This doesn't look an easy surface to time shots on, or maybe it's just that Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson have bowled really well.

Henry has his hands on his head again as Kohli spoons a square drive over a fielder and away for four. Again, that was not where he intended the ball to go...

NZ will be very peased with this start.

Before he left us Rohit Sharma absolutely smashed this one.

So then, India's openers are out of here and a bit of pressure now on Shreyas Iyer. Rohit Sharma wanted to bat first to see how they go about posting a total and so far it's been well worth this dress rehearsal.

Shreyas Iyer is the new man in.

The catch is taken, Jamieson has his man.

Rohit has just given it away there and now he has to go for 15.

    Got him!

Rohit rocks back looking for that big pull shot but doesn't time it at all, it's just a chipped chance to square leg and an easy grab for Will Young.

Sharma has to leave right now.

Kohli took a chance and he got lucky but there was a moment where it looked a little bit dicey.

  20. Ind 21-1published at 5 overs

Kohli is off the mark with a four, slightly miscued but good enough to hit the fence. The crowd, small as it still is, goes nuts.

Matt Henry replies with a good one to tie the great man in a knot. Kohli then spanks a much crisper drive into the covers but straight to a fielder.
