  1. Eng 55-1published at 5.2 overs

Smeared over extra cover now. Phil Salt is in ultra-attacking mode.

  2. Eng 51-1published at 5.1 overs

New Zealand turn to spin for the tricky sixth over. Phil Salt muscles the first ball from Michael Bracewell for four off the back foot.

  3. Eng 47-1published at 5 overs

    Salt 31, Bethell 12

Had that catch been taken it would have been an identical dismissal to Saturday for Jacob Bethell. He was hurried by a bouncer and sliced it high into the air.

One to keep an eye on with the Ashes ahead, despite him taking four to a similar, if slightly shorter ball, later in the over.

Quite a tough catch for Tim Seifert. He had to turn around 360 degrees and has gone too far. There's a bit of wind out there so it will be swirling about. Kyle Jamieson was standing near him but the man with the gloves on will have wanted it.

  5. dropped catch

Bethell dropped on 7published at 4.2 overs

New Zealand dropped Sam Curran twice on Saturday and now they've put down another. It's a windy day and I think that has done for Tim Seifert. The wicketkeeper is teetering left and right under a high ball after a top edge from Jacob Bethell. He ends up having to dive one-handed for it and it hits his forearm before going down.

James Gulleford: Absolutely idiotic from Jos Buttler! Just no need to do that whatsoever. Thrown away all the momentum they were building.

  7. Eng 37-1published at 4 overs

    Salt 30, Bethell 3

Excellent running from Phil Salt, who gets two despite simply nudging the ball towards one of those disks that mark the 30-yard circle. That keeps him on strike and he profits by flicking the final ball of Kyle Jamieson's over for four in the same direction. It had been a tight over until then.

England have an attacking shot percentage of 73% in the powerplay in T20Is this calendar year, the highest of all teams. They have started today's innings in the same manner.

  9. Eng 28-1published at 3 overs

It's a good second over from Matt Henry. His first cost 11 but this one, helped by some good fielding on the leg-side boundary, goes for just four.

  10. Eng 25-1published at 2.3 overs

Jacob Bethell scratches at his crease as he prepares to face his first ball.

A seam-up delivery from Jacob Duffy which is banged in hard into the wicket. Jos Buttler was trying to go over the top and it's an great breakthrough for New Zealand. This is a hard ground to hit over mid-off and mid-on early in your innings.

There's a millimetre in it, but it's a millimetre in New Zealand's favour.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2 overs

    Buttler c Santner b Duffy 4 (Eng 24-1)

Gone. Jos Buttler gets a drive away over the covers but the very next ball, attempting to smack Duffy somewhere down the ground, Buttler slices a catch high into the sky.

There's brief panic for Duffy and New Zealand as the TV umpire checks the front foot no-ball. It looks tight but just about OK.

  14. Eng 19-0published at 1.3 overs

Phil Salt is motoring. First he slams a back-foot slap through point and then he gets a bit lucky to glove a bouncer from seamer Jacob Duffy over the keeper.

  15. Eng 11-0published at 1 over

    Salt 11, Buttler 0

England have to open with these two at the T20 World Cup, right? They have used Jos Buttler as a number three in recent years when everyone has been available but this just seems a more threatening pair. Their record together is outstanding.

  16. Eng 10-0published at 0.3 overs

This has been heaved for four too.

Poor Matt Henry is on the back foot early on.

  17. 6 runs

    Eng 6-0published at 0.2 overs

    Pinged for six!

After having a drive at the first ball, he flicks the second over mid-wicket for six.

  18. Eng 0-0published at 07:15 BST

Phil Salt is squinting into the setting sun as he wanders to the middle beside Jos Buttler.

Matt Henry is going to take the new ball for New Zealand. The swear jar is open again for anyone who makes the obvious joke.

England captain Harry Brook: "We didn't really know what to do. We were going to bowl but are happy to have a bat.

"We did really well to get to 150 from the position we were in. It shows our depth in batting not to have the performance we would have liked but still got a competitive score."
