When you look at this West Indies side - I'm not going to lie - they have not been impressive.

The groundstaff team are getting ready for a big one. They're putting extra weights on the covers. The rain is getting heavier as we speak.

Both Kate Cross and Em Arlott have been absolutely on the money with the ball for England today.

    On Sophie Ecclestone...

    Mental health is so important.

If she feels she needs a refresh and if she's going to miss a series or a bit of domestic cricket, but it means she's fit for the World Cup, ultimately that's what we want.

News from the England camp - spinner Sophie Ecclestone will take a break from domestic cricket in order to manage a minor quad injury and prioritise her wellbeing.

Ecclestone, who missed the ongoing West Indies tour with a knee injury, remains available for selection for England's series against India, which begins on 28 June. “Sophie has been managing a quad niggle over the past week but more importantly she wants to take a step back from cricket for a short period to look after herself," said England Women’s head coach Charlotte Edwards.

"We're totally behind that. We want to be able to select Sophie for the India series but the most important thing for her at the moment is that she feels in a better place. We all agree that a break now could be beneficial for her to achieve that."

England chose to bowl first today in overcast conditions in Taunton.

And they made a good start, sending back Realeanna Grimmond, Zaida James and Stefanie Taylor with only four runs on the board.

But West Indies steadied their innings slightly with Qiana Joseph on 21 and Shemaine Campbelle on 18, before the rain came to play spoilsport.

Unfortunately, we are unable to continue here as the rain gets heavier.

The umpire has signalled for the play to stop and the covers are coming on in Taunton.

The footmarks are only going to get greasier. The rain is very fine. Sometimes the fine rain is the wet stuff. The ground staff are waiting on their tractor.

Lauren Filer continues with the ball and keeps falling down on the follow-through.

A short ball from Filer troubles Qiana Joseph and produces an edge and wicket-keeper Amy Jones is after it but can't reach there in time to complete the catch.

There is a good crowd gathered in Taunton, but the rain is starting to fall again now.

    The groundstaff are ready.

  17. WI 40-3published at 11 overs

    Campbelle 16, Joseph 20,

Charlie Dean's off-spin is introduced from the other end now.

Shemaine Campbelle swings at one going down the leg side but misses. And Amy Jones is confident there is a slight edge, but the umpire signals for a wide.

Only two runs coming from Dean's first over.

Great start from England in this opening 40 minutes of play to get West Indies three down early. England have been so consistent and they're asking more questions than we have previously seen.
