  3. NZ 63-1published at 11 overs

A slightly hairy moment for Kane Williamson as an inside edge scuttles past his off stump and runs away for four.

Otherwise, it's a good over for New Zealand, who add seven runs to their total.

Wiaan Mulder enters the bowling attack.

South Africa have taken one wicket but there hasn't been much mayhem. We're seeing more and more how batter-friendly this pitch is.

  6. NZ 56-1published at 10 overs

    Ravindra 29 (29), Williamson 5 (8)

Kane Williamson finishes the powerplay with an effortless four through point.

It's been a pretty even first 10 overs, but South Africa are probably the slightly happier side having picked up the wicket of Will Young and kept New Zealand to 56-1.

This surface isn't very friendly to bowlers but especially to spin. I don't think we'll see many spinners come into attack today.

  8. NZ 51-1published at 9 overs

Three singles from Kagiso Rabada's first over.

South Africa's field setting has been pretty good so far in Lahore. Apart from Marco Jansen's fourth over, which featured three boundaries, they've not spent too much time chasing the ball across the outfield.

A first bowling change for South Africa, with Kagiso Rabada replacing Marco Jansen.

It's not been a bad powerplay as far as South Africa are concerned. There's only been one bad over.

  11. NZ 48-1published at 8 overs

Kane Williamson starts his innings with a defensive block.

What can he and Rachin Ravindra build for New Zealand?

That's the first big shot that Will Young has tried to play, everything else has been played on merit. He tried to play it in the wind but it wasn't a good shot no matter where the wind was.

    That's an important wicket.

  13. wicket

    Young c Markram b Ngidi 21 (NZ 48-1)

Will Young looks to go down the ground but ends up skying the ball high into the air and it drops safely into the hands of a waiting Aiden Markram at mid-on.

He knew he was out before the ball had started to come back down and looked absolutely disgusted with himself.

South Africa have their first wicket and it's a bit of a gift.

You can trust this pitch. You've only got to beat the ring and it's four at the moment.

  15. NZ 44-0published at 7 overs

Rachin Ravindra is looking in glorious touch today. Marco Jansen's third delivery is slightly too wide and Ravindra pounces, bisecting two fielders and watching the ball run away to the rope.

Two balls later, he's flicking off his pads for four more through midwicket before beating a diving Temba Bavuma for his third boundary of the over.

    Ravindra has 25 off 23.

So far, it's about getting out of this powerplay. Already South Africa have turned to cutters, trying to make sure there's nothing too easy to send down the ground. Good work so far but they've got to keep putting that pressure on to force a bad shot.

  17. NZ 30-0published at 6 overs

Just a single for Rachin Ravindra from Lungi Ngidi's third over.

He's turned to his slower balls with good effect.

Will Young and Rachin Ravindra have started really well today. The important thing to do early is find the gaps. They'll be disappointed with how much they've found the fielders in this powerplay.

Bowling fuller lengths on this belter of a Lahore pitch is an attacking option. In the first 10 overs, pacers have averaged 17 and conceding at 7.5 rpo going full on this pitch - while with anything shorter they average 48.

  20. NZ 29-0published at 5 overs

Will Young pulls the final delivery of Marco Jansen's third over for four. It's a lovely shot.

Eight from the over for New Zealand, who are clipping along nicely.
