This start has been indicative of how this surface plays.

If the batters settle in quickly, it gives the bowlers a really difficult job to do.

Marco Jansen has taken 15 wickets in the first powerplay across the last two ICC ODI events - this tournament and the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023. No bowler has more wickets in this opening phase.

Rachin Ravindra has scored 702 runs across these two events - only India's Virat Kohli (982) & Shreyas Iyer (725) have scored more runs. Jansen v Ravindra will be a top match-up to watch out for in this innings.

Good start here from New Zealand, I feel like this could be a very high scoring game

  4. NZ 21-0published at 4 overs

A boundary apiece for Will Young and Rachin Ravindra to bookend a nine-run over for New Zealand. They've both made very composed starts and are capitalising nicely on the rapid outfield in Lahore.

Will Young and Rachin Ravindra are now realising that there's work to be done as batters, they need to be aggressive. The question is always how many is enough and how much are you coming along, is it enough at that time?

  6. NZ 16-0published at 3.1 overs

Will Young drives Lungi Ngidi through backward point for four. The outfield is looking rapid.

That was a remarkable shot form Ravindra, with his backfoot off the ground. It was all very stylish.

  8. NZ 12-0published at 3 overs

Rachin Ravindra gets one away to pick up a boundary off the final ball of Marco Jansen's over. It's a short delivery and he absolutely hammers it through square leg.

That's the first one he's really connected with today.

It is a rock hard surface here at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Lungi Ngidi has been on and off with injury throughout his career. He's gone away and tried to get himself fit again. He was able to get fit in time and that's massively helped South Africa by bringing experience to their attack.

  11. NZ 6-0published at 2 overs

Another tight over from South Africa, bringing just four runs. Both sides are feeling their way into this semi-final.

  12. NZ 6-0published at 1.4 overs

The first boundary of the day comes from the bat of Will Young. It's not a pretty shot - a fortuitous edge over the head of the very tall Marco Jansen in the slips - but they all count.

Lungi Ngidi will partner Marco Jansen with the new ball.

    There's a very small crowd, it's disappointing.

  16. NZ 2-0published at 1 over

A tidy start from Marco Jansen, conceding a single and a wide and testing Rachin Ravindra with a bouncer.

It's looking like a flat one out there.

Rachin Ravindra is a young guy riveting with talent.

    The anthems are done.

Will Young and Rachin Ravindra are out in the middle for New Zealand.

Marco Jansen, who took three powerplay wickets against England on Saturday, will open the bowling for South Africa.

The surface has slid on very nicely for the batters. There was one day where it swung a bit but that was only because it rained a few days before. On a hot day like this, you'd expect it to swing a bit.
