    No half-century for Harry Brook.

Alzarri Joseph bangs it in and Brook can't sort his limbs out. The ball pings high into the air and into the grateful hands of Jayden Seales.

The captain makes way for the man he replaced, Jos Buttler.

  2. Eng 87-2published at 11.2 overs

Plenty of excitement in the West Indies camp to start the over.

Some careless running nearly brings the wicket of Joe Root - a direct hit would have sent him packing after a brilliant stop from Brandon King.

Shai Hope then jumps in the air to appeal a possible caught behind against Harry Brook.

  3. Eng 86-2published at 11 overs

    Target 309

Harry Brook is punishing every bad ball which comes his way. Jayden Seales' fourth delivery is too full and too wide, and Brook absolutely pummels it through the covers.

He's on the verge of his half-century in double-quick time.

It's a really good start here by these two, Joe Root and Harry Brook, especially after the early breakthroughs but they look in good nick.

Remember those Tests a few years ago when Root and Bairstow took us to victory? Well today it is going to be Root and Brook to take us to victory.

  6. Eng 78-2published at 10 overs

    Root 28, Brook 41

West Indies had a good powerplay, putting on 56-1. England, however, have cruised past that mark - after 10 overs, they're 78-2 - and are well on their way to their target of 309.

Alzarri Joseph's introduction into the attack proved expensive. Harry Brook picked up another boundary and 11 runs came from the 10th over.

Surely the drop rate at grounds is based on the background (I.e.balls getting lost in the background - the opposite of a sightscreen)?

    James in Fonte Santa, Portugal

That is the consensus here, too. Higgy (my boss) says that the ball gets lost against the colour of the pavilion at Lord's and he suspects the trees at Sophia Gardens will play their part in fielding mishaps.

  9. Eng 67-2published at 9 overs

    Target 309

Those two early wickets feel a long time ago, don't they?

Momentum has swung in England's favour. Harry Brook and Joe Root are flying, prompting a bowling change from Shai Hope. Here comes Alzarri Joseph.

  10. Eng 62-2published at 8.1 overs

That's four fours in a row for England, this one from the bat of Harry Brook.

It's wild and flashes just out of the reach of a leaping Justin Greaves in the slips. Not his best shot but they all count.

Three glorious shots but Matthew Forde has lost his length a little bit there after almost getting Joe Root in the previous over.

  12. Eng 58-2published at 8 overs

Matthew Forde will not want to watch that over back on the highlights.

Joe Root dispatches him for four boundaries in five balls, three of which are gloriously well-timed strokes.

Forde has conceded 46 runs from his four overs. England have scored 58 in total...

It amazes me that sports fans are surprised when a team that is defeated in one match comes back fired up for the next one! Great Windies are making a game of it and chance to test the remainder of England's batting.

That's such a curious statistic. I wonder what the reason is for Cardiff's low catch efficiency... Your thoughts on the matter are very welcome.

  15. How's stat?!published at 15:55 British Summer Time 1 June

    Soham Sarkhel
    CricViz analyst

Since the start of 2019, Cardiff (76.6% catch efficiency) is the ground in the UK with the most drops in ODIs, just behind Lord's (70.5%).

  16. Eng 41-2published at 7 overs

    Target 309

It's a maiden for Jayden Seales, although I imagine he won't be too interested in that. He's probably still thinking about Harry Brook being dropped off the first ball of the over. Will the England skipper make West Indies pay?

A really good keeper on top of their form would've caught that.

Dropped catch - Brook on 30published at 6.1 overs

Shai Hope has dropped Harry Brook on 30. Oh dear.

Diving to his right, the wicketkeeper got a big hand to it but he couldn't hang on. Hope spends several moments lying face down on the floor. He can't believe it.

It's a sort of lbw where you'd imagine the umpire would've given it out because it's so straight and hit him on the back leg.

It's very close and that's a big moment because England need someone to stay with Harry Brook if they want to get these runs.

    It looked out, didn't it?

  20. Not out - Eng 41-2published at 6 overs

Agony for West Indies. It's umpire's call on height. Joe Root survives.

Prior to that hairy moment, it was a productive over for England, with Harry Brook following up his six with back-to-back fours. He's raced to 30 off just 16 deliveries.
