WICKETpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 5 May

    Rew lbw b Harmer 116 (Somerset 145 & 312-7 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259)

It would never, ever be Somerset cruising to victory easily.

Even after a phenomenal 87 minutes of batting with Craig Overton, James Rew got a bit giddy and aimed to slog sweep for four after a couple of decent Harmer deliveries.

An easy lbw decision means Miggy Pretorius does have to bat, he has scored 54, 47* and 59 within his last five innings mind.

133 was the partnership off 237 balls.

Take nothing away from Rew here though, even Somerset should not be able to lose from here, it was a terrific, match-winning and season saving knock.

  2. 'Stalemate'published at 12:28 British Summer Time 5 May

    Glamorgan 431 & 190-6 v Derbyshire 350

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It's a bit of a stalemate in Cardiff with the sedate Bank Holiday crowd not treated to any obvious aggression from the home side, as they concentrated on not losing the game before any attempt to set up a declaration.

Glamorgan were 213 ahead at the start of play and lost night-watchman Andy Gorvin for six, lobbing a catch to short-leg off the ferocious Blair Tickner.

Ben Kellaway survived an extraordinary incident off Zak Chappell as he hit the ball hard into the ground, saw it bounce four metres into the air and come down so close to the stumps that he was unable to kick it away.

With slow run-rates throughout the match, Derbyshire will have to strike quickly as Glamorgan appear in uncharitable mood.

  3. Postpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 312-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

Top individual innings of the match, top team innings of the match of course, Somerset have made their fans bite nails again of course.

What a comeback, and in fairness what a decent over from Simon Harmer keeping the home side needing nine to win than many others would in this position.

  4. Postpublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 5 May

    Lancs 450 & 65-2 v Gloucs 589-8 dec

Marcus Harris and Josh Bohannon have settled things for Lancashire after both openers went in consecutive overs.

Can Gloucestershire sneak out another one or two before lunch?

Lancashire still trail by 74 and the scoreboard isn't moving.

  5. Postpublished at 12:24 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 312-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

Cries of 'Reeeewwwww' from the bank holiday Monday crowd.

Another Taunton morning fans will be telling their kids about for weeks and months if not years about.

Straight down the ground for four then nonchalantly and emphatically pulled to the boundary too.

International bowler Kasun Rajitha has no answer to the set James Rew here, even with a 10 over old Dukes ball.

  6. 'Somerset looked down and almost out'published at 12:23 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 303-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

It's almost defied belief the extent of the turnaround.

Somerset looked down and almost out. They looked demoralised, Simon Harmer was wheeling away from the River End and it seemed only a matter of time before Somerset finally folded up.

But Lewis Gregory and James Rew came out after tea yesterday afternoon clearly determined not to go down without a fight.

  7. wicket

HANTS 470 ALL OUTpublished at 12:23 British Summer Time 5 May

    Baker lbw b Yusuf 1 (Hants 470 v Durham 511)

Codi Yusuf has wrapped up this Hampshire reply.

It has nipped back into him and struck just in line with leg stump and Hants finish their innings trailing by 41 runs.

Yusuf finishes with 3-83 and Matthew Potts has bettered that slightly with 4-84.

Durham will be back out with their bats soon as this match drifts towards a draw

  8. Somerset need 18 more runspublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 303-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

Craig Overton tickles through fine leg for three, bit of turn there for Simon Harmer.

James Rew then takes two through the legside off the back foot.

Craig Overton ends the over with another glorious straight drive off Harmer for four, he's nearing a valuable half-century.

Essex appear to know the game is up, the field is flat, that is what a brilliant partnership can do to the 14 different fielders with Essex still using substitutes for the injuries, Jordan Cox the most noticeably absent of course.

  9. 'It's a case of the horse having bolted'published at 12:21 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 216-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex sport

Tom Westley has brought some of his fielders a little bit closer in but you feel it's a case of the horse having bolted by now.

From the word go today Essex have allowed too many easy singles and second runs to be taken.

  10. 50 runs

50 up for Eskinazi and Hollmanpublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 5 May

    Middx 238 & 126-3 (target 365) v Kent 129 & 473

Matt Parkinson is getting a bit of joy turning it out of the footmarks round the wicket to left hander Luke Hollman from the Pavilion End.

But overall, Kent are starting to look a little frustrated.

The half century partnership between the Middx pair is up and, while they are getting a few edges, they are trapping along quite nicely here.

  11. Brown falls short of career highpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 May

    Hampshire 468-9 v Durham 511

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Ben Brown has fallen just short of a career-best score today. He's just been bowled leg stump by Codi Yusuf for 162. He faced 275 balls.

His best score was 165* in a win against Surrey last year. He also made 163* for Sussex against Durham in 2014.

Hampshire now have the last pair at the crease and Durham will hope to be batting again in the not too distant future.

The track remains as flat as a road and Durham's bowlers have so far sent down 153 overs.

  12. Postpublished at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 293-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

    Kasun RajithaImage source, Getty Images

Kasun Rajitha has his first go with the new cherry, Sam Cook looks like he will be wicketless on this final day for Essex at Taunton.

One beauty passes James Rew's outside edge, but he holds the pose unphased, just playing inside the line like a certain Marcus Trescothick did for decades.

Rew belts a square drive out to deep point for one, just as the main scoreboard here blinks, not a good time, but mind you is there ever a good time during play for the scoreboard to fail!?

Another no ball and a Craig Overton pull for one helps Somerset further, 28 required to win.

  13. 'Cook hasn't been at his best'published at 12:17 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 288-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

    Paul Newton
    BBC Essex sport

I would be surprised now if this game doesn't finish before lunch, one way or the other.

Sam Cook has bowled too may legside deliveries which is very unlike him. Magnificent bowler but just hasn't been at his best since tea yesterday.

  14. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 288-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

Shot from Craig Overton, the big man plodding down with his front leg, pumping Simon Harmer through mid off for four.

His first boundary off his 32nd ball, a very un-Overton like knock, which in my view makes it even more impressive, he has not played his natural game, just doing the perfect job for his team.

Big appeal next ball, but it is all Somerset now, just 33 to win.

  15. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:09 British Summer Time 5 May

    Brown b Yusuf 162 (Hants 463-9, trail by 43 runs v Durham 511)

Ben Brown's long stint at the wicket is over... and the Hampshire skipper has been undone by a beauty from Codi Yusuf.

The Durham quick has been getting some wild swing and nearly did Brown in the previous over but that one has hooped from outside off to take his leg stump.

Brown falls just four short of a new career best (his unbeaten 165 against Surrey last season remains his high water mark).

But he can hold his head high after an innings which has almost certainly delivered eight points for a draw.

  16. Postpublished at 12:05 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 280-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

Simon Harmer turns one past James Rew's outside edge, the first play and miss in a while.

The Essex fielders squeeze, just one run taken from his first over back.

  17. 'A superb innings under intense pressure'published at 12:03 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 276-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

A magnificent innings from James Rew.

A quite superb innings under intense pressure. He came in when Somerset were in all sorts of trouble and he's steered them within sight of victory.

  18. 100 partnership between Rew & Overtonpublished at 12:02 British Summer Time 5 May

    Somerset 145 & 279-6 (target 321) v Essex 206 & 259

James Rew and Craig OvertonImage source, Getty Images

Every single run is being clapped so loudly by the knowledgeable crowd here that it can be heard through the double-glazed press box vividly.

Edge of the seats still maybe, but Somerset even looking assured against the new ball dare I say.

Craig Overton is 24*, James Rew 102*.

The 252 balls these two have faced have been so pivotal and could really inspire change in Somerset's so far struggling season.

Tom Westley has felt obliged to turn back to Simon Harmer, desperate for a miracle from him again now.

  19. Back on at Southamptonpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 5 May

    Hants 462-8 (trail by 49 runs) v Durham 511

Just a short shower and play is back under way at the Utilita Bowl.

  20. Postpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 5 May

    Middx 238 & 107-3 v Kent 129 & 473

Change of pace from Kent with Matt Parkinson into the attack.

Second ball he has a big shout for an lbw but that has taken a big chunk of Stephen Eskinazi's bat on route to the pad.

    Decent start from the leggie.
