Nicholas Pooran and Brandon King shared a good partnership but both of them are now out. Two new batters at the crease and it's a good opportunity for Papua New Guinea to strike again.

The leg-spinner will really be key. Rovman Powell will try and take him on but he's not always the best against spin. He may hit him into the stands but if he gets out it will send a ripple through the West Indies changing room.

  4. WI 63-3published at 10 overs

    Target 137

That's the halfway point. Skipper Rovman Powell is the new man in and that's a wicket maiden.

  5. WI 63-3published at 18:20 British Summer Time 2 June 2024

Scoreboard pressure took its toll. Papua New Guinea managed a few tight overs and it's brought a reward.

  8. wicket

    King c Siaka b Vala 34 (WI 63-3)

Got him! A few dot balls in a row and Brandon King couldn't resist, he tried to whack Assad Vala out the ground but put it straight up in the air and Lega Siaka wheeled around to get under it and pouch the catch.

  9. WI 63-2published at 9.4 overs

That one big over aside West Indies have struggled to get the slower bowlers away.

West Indies are dominating the game but perhaps not as their fans would have hoped before the game.

  11. WI 63-2published at 9.2 overs

The hosts are well above the required rate on the 'worm'. PNG skipper Assad Vala is having a bowl.

  12. WI 63-2published at 9 overs

    Target 137

Roston Chase is the new batter and he nearly chops on! He took a blinding catch earlier on.

Nicholas Pooran didn't quite get to the pitch of that properly and therefore couldn't execute the shot properly.

That partnership has allowed West Indies to get a move on though and it should be quite an easy assignment from here for them.

It did seem strange that PNG didn't review the lbw against him earlier because he is the key player.

There are great celebrations form the Papua New Guinea players. They are delighted to get Pooran out.

  15. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8.1 overs

    Pooran c Ura b Kariko 27 (WI 61-2)

Catch that! Papua New Guinea needed a wicket and they have one, Nicholas Pooran looking to send a ball to the fence once again but only picking out Tony Ura at deep midwicket.

  16. 'West Indies on top'published at 18:11 British Summer Time 2 June 2024

    Geraint Jones
Former England and Papua New Guinea wicketkeeper on BBC Sounds

I'm liking the intent that the West Indies have shown now. It is more what I'd expect from them in an international match. It wasn't quite there in the first innings but now the boundary hitting and running between the wickets is more like what I'd expect.

West Indies are on top. That over of spin that went from 20 has relaxed them.

  17. WI 61-1published at 8 overs

    Target 137

Chad Soper bowling at a shade over 70mph, looking to bowl tight and not give Brandon King any space to free those arms. King picks up a couple with a nudge into the leg side before Nicholas Pooran does the same for a single.

  18. Postpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 2 June 2024

Yes, a reminder that Nicholas Pooran could and should have been out for a duck. He was lbw to Alei Nao but was given not out and it was not reviewed.

Every run coming that came from that over is because of poor umpiring. Pooran was plumb, bad umpiring and not being used to DRS are hurting PNG

  20. WI 57-1published at 7 overs

Nicholas Pooran with a slightly uppish sweep but he picks up a couple before a very neat little cut away brings a few more.
