  1. WI 8-1published at 2 overs

    Target 137

It actually looks brighter than ever out there now. Alei Nao comes in to Nicholas Pooran once again, the batter is unconvincing as the ball again thumps into his pads.

Nao then completes a wicket maiden. Bowled!

The players are back out on the field, I'm pleased to report.

Nicholas Pooran won't hang around, he'll try and counter-attack, and I expect Brandon King to do the same.

You need to bowl straight, at the stumps, against both. Don't offer them any width or length.

  4. Restart soonpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 2 June

Word is that we are restarting at 17:47 BST - so just a few minutes to wait now.

It is difficult after a break because Papua New Guinea had some momentum. They'll have an opportunity in the first over or two to put pressure on West Indies.

  6. 'World Cup is the pinnacle'published at 17:33 British Summer Time 2 June

A lot of teams have had a lack of preparation for this tournament and are flying in two or three days before.

I don't like that, in a way it devalues the tournament. This is a World Cup, it should be the pinnacle.

  7. Charles gone!published at 17:32 British Summer Time 2 June

Here's the first wicket of the West Indies reply - Johnson Charles sent it upstairs but he was gone first ball.

  8. Lucky Pooranpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 2 June

How big an error will not reviewing that second lbw appeal prove to be for Papua New Guinea?

West Indies keeper Nicholas Pooran would have been gone, for a duck as well. He can be a dangerous player once in.

  9. Soper castledpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 2 June

While we wait for the action to return a reminder of one of the wickets from a little earlier on as Andre Russell finds a snorter to send Chas Soper back to base.

  10. Postpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 2 June

A short rain delay on the cards here, I think. Three sides of the ground look sunny and clear, it's just a shower in Guyana.

Famous last words but don't go too far.

The bowler led the appeals but he thought it was high.

The replay shows that Alei Nao could have had a second wicket - that appeal for lbw was a good one but Papua New Guinea didn't appeal!

It is a fine balance for the umpires. The bowlers are getting a little bit of an advantage now with the ball skidding on but at what point does it get soft and become a negative.

The rain is adding to the drama now.

  16. WI 8-1published at 1.4 overs

    Target 137

Keeper Nicholas Pooran is in at three for the hosts and lets a few slide by from Alei Nao, who has started very tidily. The wind is billowing his shirt as he has another lbw appeal turned down!

    A tricky customer early doors.

That is exactly what Papua New Guinea will want - early wickets to put West Indies under pressure.

    Charles lbw b Nao 0 (WI 8-1)

    Got him!

A golden duck for Johnson Charles and a tremendous start for Alei Nao and Papua New Guinea. Full and straight, it was only height that could have saved the batter and it's umpire's call.

I think that is slightly leg side and high.
