'incredible' fielding from Elwiss leads to direct hit run out

  1. Spirit 23-0published at 15 balls

    And here is Shabnim Ismail.

But it's a loose start from the South African seamer. Short and wide to Georgia Redmayne, who slaps the ball away behind square for four.

Four more! Not quite so wide this time but still enough width for Redmayne to get it away behind square again, finer this time but it's another boundary.

Bumper to end the set but it beats everything and goes away for four byes.

Shabnim Ismail averages just 12.5 with the ball against London Spirit and has returned figures of 3-24, 2-26 and 2-20 in her last three outings against today's opponent.

    Alex Hartley

Jess Jonassen bowled in powerplay in the previous game but Beaumont is mixing things up by bringing Hayley Matthews in with a bit of spin.

Hayley is one of those players who is good at everything she does. A freak really.

Lovely shot from Kira Chathli. She used the pace and knew where the field was.

A little bit of bat and you get a boundary.

  5. Spirit 8-0published at 10 balls

Relief for Georgia Redmayne as, after a six-ball duck in the first game, the London Spirit opener gets off the mark fifth ball here.

Just a single but that will be a weight off her shoulders.

Still no Shabnim Ismail for Welsh Fire, though, as they go with the off-spin of Hayley Matthews and after just one from the first four balls, Kira Chathli paddle-sweeps very fine from the fifth to find the boundary.

    Sir Alastair Cook
    Ex-England captain on BBC iPlayer

A nice bit of shape from Davies. This wicket has a nice green covering which will encourage more pace and bounce rather than spin.

You can see that's what Welsh Fire are trying to do.

  7. Spirit 3-0published at 5 balls

Very good start from Freya Davies.

Four dot balls and a three for Kira Chathli, heaved into the gap on the leg side. They're big boundaries square in Cardiff so expect plenty of running between the wickets for the batters.

Right then, back to the here and now and Freya Davies will bowl the first five balls for Welsh Fire.

Georgia Redmayne and Kira Chathli are the London Spirit openers.

  9. Originals edge Invincibles in last-ball thrillerpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 9 August

Manchester Originals held their nerve to claim a dramatic two-run win over Oval Invincibles in The Hundred.

Having set the Invincibles 140 to win, with captain Beth Mooney hitting a fine 70 from 45 balls, the Originals took just three wickets but maintained their discipline as the match went down to the last ball.

Invincibles needed four from it but Originals all-rounder Deandra Dottin nailed her yorker and Marizanne Kapp could only dig it out for a single.

It's a first win of 2025 for the Originals, while two-time champions Invincibles have lost their first two matches.

The teams are about to emerge at Sophia Gardens but before we do, let's have a quick look at the early game that I mentioned a few minutes ago.
