'incredible' fielding from Elwiss leads to direct hit run out

Here's a reminder of the calamitous run out which set the tone for Welsh Fire's lacklustre batting performance against Northern Superchargers last time out.

    Thanks Sam.

Welsh Fire will be the happier of the two sides at the break but London Spirit can still be optimistic about leaving Wales with four points.

As our friends at CricViz pointed out (@15:31), teams posting over 120 in the first innings at Sophia Gardens have won six and lost none in the women's Hundred.

And Welsh Fire were dismal with the bat in their season opener against Northern Superchargers. They were bowled out for 94, their lowest total in the competition, and captain Tammy Beaumont (36) was the only batter to pass 15.

Right then. It's been all go so far in these two 14:30 BST games!

The full 20 possible wickets taken as Jack says and both home sides will now be confident of knocking off the runs and claiming victory.

We're changing things up after all that excitement. Elizabeth Botcherby is here to take you through the Welsh Fire chase at Sophia Gardens.

I would imagine Manchester Originals will be very disappointed with their batting efforts today.

Currie run out (Billings) 21 (Originals 128 all out)

    Jack Skelton
    BBC Sport

My days. The two 14:30 matches today have seen 20 wickets fall in total across the two first innings.

Manchester Originals try to sneak a bye off the final ball, but Invincibles keeper Sam Billings nails his throw at the stumps and Scott Currie is miles short.

Still, a useful 21 off nine balls from Currie, though Originals look well under-par here. Invincibles need 129 to win at home.

Key thing though - a red inker for James Anderson - two not out.

  6. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 99 balls

Gray lbw b Davies 3 (Spirit 124 all out)

    As expected. That is out.

Full and straight from Freya Davies, tailing it and hitting Eva Gray in line with off stump. Well, umpire's call on impact but that's good enough.

Fantastic effort in the field from Welsh Fire.

It would be silly to not use a review at this stage.

  8. Spirit reviewpublished at 99 balls

Has Freya Davies wrapped up the innings a ball early?

Eva Gray is given out lbw but has reviewed. It's hitting the stumps, the only issue is whether the impact was outside the line.

  9. Spirit 121-9published at 95 balls

Spirit have 10 and 11 out there now with five balls to go.

Freya Davies will finish the innings off for Fire, one way or another.

  10. wicket

    Baker c Cox b Mahmood 1 (Originals 112-9)

    Jack Skelton
    BBC Sport

More gifts for the defending champions.

Sonny Baker chips Saqib Mahmood straight to Jordan Cox at mid-on.

Here comes James Anderson to the middle. I bet he's DELIGHTED.

Spirit will be disappointed to lose Charli Knott at this stage. She could have put on another 12 runs and got Spirit to a decent total.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 94 balls

    Knott c Levick b Jonassen 47 (Spirit 121-9)

The end of a fabulous innings from Charli Knott.

Back-to-back boundaries for the Australian had taken Spirit past 120 but she then top-edges a sweep off her fellow countrywoman and is gone.

A first wicket of the day for Jess Jonassen and an easy enough catch for Katie Levick at short fine leg.

Some very odd cricket going on from Manchester Originals.

Not sure Jimmy Anderson was expecting to bat today...

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Invincibles v Originals

    Noor c Behrendroff b S Curran 0 (Originals 105-8)

    Jack Skelton
    BBC Sport

For a team that will become the Manchester Supergiants next year, this innings has been neither super nor giant.

Two wickets in as many balls - this time Noor Ahmad is out for a golden duck to Sam Curran, looping one straight to Jason Behrendorff at backward point.

    Alex Hartley

Knott needs to be facing the majority of the balls in the rest of this innings. There are so many singles on offer if you can manoeuvre the field.

  16. Spirit 111-8published at 90 balls

Eva Gray is out there to join Charli Knott and with 10 balls left, Spirit will be hoping for anything over 120.

Whether that will be enough remains to be seen. It would require an excellent effort in the field.

    Michael Carberry

This innings is falling away quite dramatically for Manchester Originals. It's just been a crazy 10 minutes. There hasn't been particularly good bowling. Just sloppy, sleepy dismissals.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at Invincibles v Originals

    Salt c Sowter b Rashid 41 (Originals 105-7)

    Jack Skelton
    BBC Sport

Well that will, ahem, rub some salt in the wound.

Phil Salt finally gets on strike, carts one over wide long-on, seemingly destined for a maximum only for a diving Will Jacks to brilliantly flick it back inside the rope one-handed before landing. Salt runs two, Jacks saves four runs.

And next up, Salt picks out Nathan Sowter at deep square leg off Rashid Khan. All going to pieces for Originals here.

Welsh Fire have been brilliant in the field. They have stopped and caught everything.

That makes a massive difference in cricket to keep teams down to low scores.

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 87 balls

    Glenn c Elwiss b Davies 14 (Spirit 108-8)

    Caught at short third.

Sarah Glenn tries to force the ball through the off side but it wasn't quite wide enough for that shot and the ball skews off the outside edge.

Regulation take for Georgia Elwiss, pretty straight at short third, and Freya Davies has her second wicket.
