Summary

  1. Pak 322-8published at 108 overs

It's all go for a moment when Noman Ali tries to reverse sweep Jack Leach.

He doesn't time it but sets off for a single, Brydon Carse comes round to cut it off and Aamer Jamal sends Noman back.

Meanwhile, an off-balanced Carse hurls the ball in, nearly taking out Ben Stokes - who has to jump out of the way at slip - and, at the end of all that, it's a dot ball.

  3. Pak 318-8published at 107 overs

Matthew Potts starts round the wicket to Noman Ali and raps the tailender on the pads.

Strong appeal from England but it looked to be going down leg. Not out and no review.

Actually, closer than I thought. Ball-tracking shows it was clipping leg but it would've stayed with the on-field 'not out' decision anyway.

    Maiden.

  4. Pak 318-8published at 106 overs

It's not been wholly convincing from Noman Ali but the left-hander is hanging in there for Pakistan and pushes a single to long-on to get off the mark.

Aamer Jamal can't get a single from the one and only ball he faces in Jack Leach's over so England will get another crack at Pakistan's number 10.

Wondering if Pakistan have gone into this match a pace bowler light and too spin intensive with seven spinning options who will want extended spells to get rhythm.

Good again from Aamer Jamal, staying leg-side of the ball and angling it to the left of backward point for four.

In trying to pinch a single and keep strike, he nearly drags on next ball and Matthew Potts puffs out his cheeks in frustration when the ball misses the stumps.

Still, it'll be Noman Ali on strike at the start of the next over.

The intriguing thing for me is not the reverse swing, but how Pakistan are going to bowl on this pitch with one seamer?

Are we gong to see the captain, Shan Masood bowl a few? I'm looking forward to seeing England when they get out in the middle.

  8. Pak 313-8published at 104.2 overs

You feel Aamer Jamal will have to score the bulk of the runs for Pakistan from here.

He makes a decent start in that regard by pulling a short ball from Matthew Potts through the leg side for four.

Not much pace or bounce so a bouncer was always a risk from Potts.

  9. Pak 309-8published at 104 overs

The left-hander Noman Ali is in at 10 for Pakistan and is beaten on the outside edge by Jack Leach.

That ends a wicket maiden for the England spinner. He now has 3-100 from his 33 overs.

The close fielders are working for England.

They were waiting for someone to scoop the ball like that. Sajid Khan playing with hard hands and his brief stint comes to an end.

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 103.5 overs

    Khan c Root b Leach 2 (Pak 309-8)

    Chipped to short cover.

Jack Leach strikes in the first over after drinks and England are just a couple of wickets away from wrapping up the innings.

The ball just stopped a little in the pitch so Sajid Khan was through the drive far too early and ends up lifting the ball into the grateful hands of Joe Root.

Just waking up? England have taken two big wickets this morning.

Brydon Carse continued to impress by nicking off Muhammad Rizwan in the third over of the day while Salman Ali Agha edged behind off Matthew Potts.

Runs off the middle of the bat have been hard to come by. The pitch still seems dead with a bit of slow turn and very little bounce.

We've only had a handful of spin from Jack Leach with the seamers looking more threatening.

That could be a worry for Pakistan who have picked just one pace bowler in their XI.

England will be happy with the first hour of play.

Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts have impressed me in this Test match.

England managed to get the ball reverse swinging yesterday and they will be hoping to do the same today.

  14. drinks break

    Pak 309-7published at 103 overs

Matthew Potts had a few words for Salman Ali Agha just before that wicket in his last over before wagging his finger at him after the dismissal.

The match referee might be interested in the latter. We shall see.

Potts is left chuntering at himself after giving Sajid Khan a single to start this over before Aamer Jamal adds a pair of twos.

That'll do for the first hour. It's time for drinks.

  16. Pak 304-7published at 102 overs

England are into the bowlers now with Sajid Khan in at nine.

He plays and misses at his first ball from Jack Leach then prods awkwardly at the next.

Ben Stokes promptly puts a gully in but Khan manages to get off strike with another unconvincing prod that bounces between slip and gully.

Matthew Potts will get a look at the new batter at the start of the next over.

The England boys are up and about!

Salman Ali Agha has played that shot nicely today, but England have plugged the gap.

It's another good catch from Jamie Smith and the seamers in this Test match have been impressive.

The more you go into this game you ask yourself, why have Pakistan only gone into this game with one seamer?

  18. wicket

    Salman c Smith b Potts 31 (Pak 302-7)

Tries to run it down again but this time it's nicked behind!

Salman Ali Agha had been batting very nicely but he's undone by a bit of extra bounce from Matthew Potts.

There is a hint of width from the England seamer, Salman attempted to find that deep third boundary again but the ball got big on him, flicked the edge and Jamie Smith takes the catch.

Salman Ali Agha is playing it well.

I would like England to plug the gap by putting in an extra fielder, which they have done.

That will stop Salman opening the bat and guiding it down the third region.

  20. 300 runs

    Pak 302-6published at 100.2 overs

Salman Ali Agha is toying with England.

Twice in the last over from Brydon Carse, twice more to start this one from Matthew Potts, he just runs the ball down to a vacant deep third boundary with ease.

Ben Stokes solution? A man on the boundary? Nope, plug the gap with a gully.
