Summary

  1. Pak 294-6published at 100 overs

Now, now, Mark. The last time England batted they scored 823, let's focus on that...

After the flurry of runs on Brydon Carse's last over, things calm down a bit with just two singles off Jack Leach.

That's 100 bowled as well, still four wickets for England to take before the bowlers can put their feet up.

The 16 runs in that last over from Carse is his most expensive over in this series and the first time he's conceded more than 10 runs in an over.

A collapse of wickets, too often has been "a full English".

Brydon Carse is frustrated with that over. The last ball that went past Joe Root wasn't too far away.

Not many balls have been carrying to the keeper or the slips and that's why Root is a little closer.

  5. Pak 292-6published at 99 overs

    Salman 22, Jamal 11

The pitch is getting slower and Aamer Jamal is through his shot early again, chipping the ball through a vacant mid-off for four.

It's the start of an expensive over from Brydon Carse with 16 coming from it.

Salman Ali Agha looks as composed as ever at the crease and adds the other two boundaries in the over, both times using Carse's pace and guiding the ball behind square.

The first is wide of gully, the second to the right of slip. Both times, he gets four.

  6. Pak 276-6published at 98 overs

I don't mind it but not on this pitch, Peter... seven days in and still holding up, nothing inevitable about wickets here.

How has Aamer Jamal got away with that?!

He goes back to the last ball of the Jack Leach over and tries to punch it through the off side.

It is an uppish shot, not controlled, but somehow bisects the two fielders catching in front of square.

How about an "inevitability" of wickets?

Brydon Carse continues and his latest goes for just two singles.

He's having to make slightly adjustments throughout the over as Ben Stokes continues to tweak his field to keep the batters on their toes.

The wicket delivery from Brydon Carse was the first ball Rizwan faced in the 8-9m range today.

It deviated 1.1 degrees after pitching, seaming away more than any delivery the right-hander faced in the day's play.

  10. Pak 273-6published at 96 overs

Time for spin and Jack Leach, who got things started for England with a pair of early wickets yesterday, comes on to replace Matthew Potts.

No significant turn or bounce for him yet which, given Pakistan have picked three spinners, the tourists won't be too unhappy about at this stage.

Brydon Carse's consistency has been brilliant.

He was asked to fulfil a plan in the last Test. He was predominantly a bouncer bowler, but in this Test he's hardly had to bowl one.

He is hammering away at a good length and allowing the pitch to do the work for him.

On Brydon Carse's figures. He has got 2-17 from 14 overs with six maidens.

He's following up from his excellent debut in the first Test which he got four wickets in.

  13. Pak 270-6published at 94 overs

I don't mind it, Daniel, but the Durham man needs the wicket haul to back it up.

He has been hugely impressive so far in his very short Test career and gets through another good over here.

Aamer Jamal does manage to get off the mark, working the ball off his hip, and it takes an excellent diving stop from Shoaib Bashir to deny the all-rounder a boundary.

A “Carse” of wickets seems a decent option.

  15. Pak 268-6published at 94 overs

Aamer Jamal is out to join Salman Ali Agha and the pair will be keen to replicate their partnership in the second innings of the first Test.

That 109-run stand only served to delay an England victory, something similar this time around could help Pakistan claim a victory of their own.

Salman is shaping up well again and drives the last ball of Matthew Potts' over elegantly through the off side for four.

Muhammad Rizwan is caught on the crease, his feet didn't move and he hanged his bat out towards the ball.

It takes a thin edge through to Jamie Smith who moves sharply to his right and takes a smart catch. England have been rewarded with a wicket.

Whatever it is, Rachel, there's one of them!

It's another superb delivery from Brydon Carse who gets both nip and bounce.

Muhammad Rizwan is surprised by it and the edge goes quickly off the top corner of his bat through to Jamie Smith, who takes an excellent catch.

The wicketkeeper is very close to make sure the catches carry and his reactions were spot on.

  19. Pak 263-5published at 92 overs

Runs, four of them, for Muhammad Rizwan as he gets a big stride in and drives handsomely through the covers.

Not a bad way for him and Pakistan to get up and running on day two.

I shared a flight to Multan with umpire Kumar Dharmasena, he of the correct lbw shout against Rizwan. Dharmasena keeps his trademark hat in a hard case and carries it as hand luggage. I had no idea such a hat case existed.
