Just on that stat, it's worth noting that Ben Duckett is playing in his 28th Test. This is Joe Root's 148th.

Root has plenty of England records, some are likely to remain for quite some time, but I fancy Duckett will take this one from him fairly soon.

Thanks, Matt. It's rarely dull when England are batting these days, is it?

They're going at more than five-an-over and that's having slowed down a bit late in the session.

Ben Duckett has batted superbly for his half-century and has enjoyed the surfeit of spin offered up by Pakistan.

Will the hosts come to regret picking just one seamer for this match? Unless the pitch starts breaking up rather soon, you fancy they might...

Ben Duckett has forced the bowler to bowl to him by getting down and using those sweeps and reverse sweeps.

Duckett is opening up gaps on either side of the the wicket. He has looked in control and England will be very happy with their work.

Another over of spin comes and goes and that is tea.

If the morning session was edged by Pakistan, this one has been taken by England.

With the pressure of captaincy lifted - big score for Pope incoming. You heard it here first.

    Duckett 53, Pope 4

This is Ben Duckett's fifth score of 50 or more since his last Test ton against India in February. He's had another four scores over 20 in that time too.

Helpfully for Ollie Pope, Duckett has taken most of the strike since the Crawley wicket to allow England's vice-skipper to settle.

Pakistan are going to regret not having a second seamer here.

With the dry wickets either side, reverse swing was going to play a part.

Pakistan's sole seamer Aamer Jamel, who bowled two overs earlier, is back for a second burst before the break.

We've got some good natured banter between Ben Duckett and Muhammad Rizwan here with the Pakistan wicketkeeper waiting with the ball by Duckett's stumps, teasing the England opener to lift his boot. Duckett just grins. He's not going to fall for that.

Tea is as 10:40 BST if you're wondering.

An untroubled fifty from Ben Duckett.

He is so comfortable playing the sweep and reverse sweep. A brilliant innings from Duckett.

Fifty from 47 balls for Ben Duckett and it's fitting that he gets there with another sweep.

Is Gilbert Jessop's 76-ball ton in reach today? Possibly not.

Duckett calmly raises his bat to the dressing room.

Any chance we can all have a whip around and buy the DJ in Multan some new songs? There’s only so much Adele/Oasis/Chumbawamba/Imagine Dragons I can take after 7 days of it!

Ben Duckett's only change to his plan is to switch from conventional sweep to the reverse alternative.

I don't know how he doesn't put his back out playing these shots, never mind hit them for four.

    Excellent opening partnership for England.

Any momentum that Pakistan could have brought into this bowling innings was sapped.

Zak Crawley threw his hands out towards the ball and played with a diagonal bat. Doing that gives you far less of a chance in hitting the middle of the bat.

Zak Crawley's initial reaction - an oooo after his big drive - suggested he didn't think he'd hit it but there's a definite spike. He has to trudge off.

It's third time lucky for Pakistan in terms of dismissing Crawley.
