Summary

  1. Eng 164-2published at 33 overs

Another over goes by with just a single to Ben Duckett from it.

Noman Ali and Sajid Khan have got good control at the moment. The pitch is turning, the odd one is staying low and England's batters are having to work hard.

Ben Duckett has made it into the nineties!

He has been out in the eighties four times. It's only the fifth time he's got past 90.

  3. Eng 163-2published at 32 overs

Joe Root just can't get going at the moment and misses with another sweep to end Sajid Khan's over.

We're still waiting for Pakistan's third frontline spinner, Zahid Mahmood, to get a bowl.

The two finger spinners are bowling well at the moment but you'd think the leggie would get a go before too long.

  4. Eng 162-2published at 31 overs

Ben Duckett chips down the ground for two before pushing a single through the on side to move that bit closer to three figures.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's spinners are doing a good job of keeping Joe Root tied down but he's got the experience and the nous not to let it get to him just yet.

  5. Eng 159-2published at 30.2 overs

    So good from Ben Duckett.

Quickly down for the reverse sweep and he middles it. Four more to take him to 90.

For the first time in the game, England's WinViz has gone above 50%.

    WinViz currently - Pakistan 45%, England 51%, Draw 4%

Start of Day Two - Pakistan 64%, England 29%, Draw 7%

Start of the game - Pakistan 64%, England 28%, Draw 8%

  7. Not outpublished at 30 overs

    Eng 155-2

The ball passed close to the bat but there's no spike on UltraEdge and, as expected, Joe Root was hit well outside the line for the lbw.

Pakistan lose a review. But this is a good spell for the hosts, the spinners are in the game.

  8. Pakistan reviewpublished at 30 overs

    Eng 155-2

Joe Root misses with a sweep to end the over and Pakistan go up.

I think it was for lbw and he was well outside the line but Shan Masood reckons he might have got bat on it - and it did pop up to a fielder.

    Upstairs we go.

Does anyone else like Stokes at 3 and Woakes slotting back in at 7, with Smith as the allrounder at 6?

Dave, remaining unconvinced with Pope at 3.

I don't know how that's not hit the stumps.

It's a daisy cutter and it is so close to hitting the leg stump. It goes through Rizwan's legs who can't believe it.

    Ben Duckett gets lucky.

  11. Eng 152-2published at 29 overs

Ben Duckett is clocked on the helmet as a ball from Noman Ali pops up out of the rough as he went to sweep.

He waves away the concussion test and then reverse-sweeps firmly through point for two.

The England opener is onto 83 and that was nearly it as he missed with a reverse sweep and the ball misses leg stump by millimetres!

Noman thought he had a wicket, instead it's three byes.

  13. Eng 147-2published at 28 overs

A hint of width from Sajid Khan and Ben Duckett throws his bat at it.

The left-hander gets a thick outside edge but the ball runs away to to deep third boundary.

That's the first maiden over bowled from a Pakistan spinner in this Test series.

  15. Eng 142-2published at 27 overs

Frustration all round from the penultimate ball of Noman Ali's over.

It's short and wide so Joe Root tries to cut but it stays low and scoots through to Muhammad Rizwan.

Root's frustrated not to thump it to the fence, Pakistan are disappointed he didn't nick it. Maiden over.

Salman Ali Agha has done well to anticipate that sweep shot.

He has moved to where the ball should be hit, but Ben Duckett hit it too fine.

  17. Eng 142-2published at 26 overs

    Root 6, Duckett 76

It might not be easy to start against spin on this pitch but Ben Duckett is showing what's possible when you get set.

He skips down and thumps Sajid Khan back over his head for four before cutting square for two.

Sajid does get one to spin past the outside edge before Duckett reverse-sweeps for four more to end the over.

The slip fielder read it but the England man didn't get all of it so the ball goes finer - pretty much where slip was before he moved...

  18. Eng 132-2published at 25 overs

Joe Root is a fine player of spin but it is never easy starting against spin, especially when the pitch is just starting to turn as this one in Multan finally appears to be doing.

The England number four gets through the over from Noman Ali comfortably enough, though, flicking through leg for two.

  19. Brook climbs up Test batting rankingspublished at 11:38 British Summer Time

Joe Root and Harry BrookImage source, Getty Images

The latest ICC player rankings are out and Harry Brook has jumped up to joint second in the batting rankings on the back of his triple century last week.

Joe Root still leads the way at the top but Brook has climbed 11 places to join New Zealand's Kane Williamson in equal second.

India's Yashasvi Jaiswal is fourth and Australia's Steve Smith fifth.

  20. Eng 129-2published at 24 overs

Here comes Joe Root, fresh from a career-best score in the first Test.

But he gets a decent ball first up, turning back from outside off to take an inside edge that runs into the leg side.

Root gets two for that then reverse-sweeps fine for a couple more.

Plenty of noise around the bat now, though, after a successful over for Sajid Khan and Pakistan.
