A brilliant caught and bowled from Jack Leach!

The left-handed Shaheen Afridi absolutely hammers the ball back straight but Leach springs from the end of his delivery stride and dives across the pitch to claim a superb two-handed grab.

A brilliant reaction from the England left-arm spinner to take that.

  2. Pak 214-7published at 54.1 overs

Aamer Jamal gets some attention from the physio between overs after being hit on the ribs by Brydon Carse's final delivery of that last over. Carse, who looks shattered, takes his leave from the field with Matthew Potts on to substitute field for him.

    Jack Leach continues.

Looking at both the Women’s T20 WC and the Multan Test. I wonder if it’s very hard to pick up the ball in these hazy skies? Nowhere else have I seen these colours. Because the number of catches dropped are massively disproportionate to the quality of players. I’m taking a guess but it’s the glare when you are out there - the whole sky is almost like the sun. I’m not making excuses just an observation.

A rather weary looking Brydon Carse, after that drop in the previous over, is operating round the wicket to the left-handed Shaheen Afridi.

A risky run off the fourth ball of the over - a leg bye - brings a shy at the stumps from Shoaib Bashir at the striker's end which would have been very close indeed with Aamer Jamal short of his ground. Bashir's throw misses, however.

Ben Stokes, sporting a pair of sunglasses which make him look like Jean Reno in the film Leon, is lingering on the boundary with some drinks for England's fast-bowling charges.

Jack Leach with his 27th lbw out of 131 Test wickets - that's just over 20%.

Phil Tufnell had nine out of 121. Phil Edmonds had four out of 125.

It highlights how different the game has become since DRS came in.

  6. Pak 208-7published at 53 overs

Jack Leach continues with Aamer Jamal stoutly defending the England left-arm spinner, showing the bat maker's name to see off a maiden over.

Brydon Carse was not best pleased with that drop. He was down on his haunches, and covered his face with his hands.

Regardless of England's strong position he's putting every bead of sweat into bowling and wants reward for his labour.

The catching standards in this Test have been ordinary.

Ollie Pope got there - it wasn't straightforward, but he covered most of the ground!

  9. dropped catch

Aamer dropped on 50published at 51.2 overs

Aamer Jamal on the hook to Brydon Carse again, but this time he cannot get the distance on it.

The ball flies high in the air and Ollie Pope does a bit of a jig as he runs backwards from mid-wicket but gets himself into a bit of a tangle and ends up shelling the catch.

A reminder if you are just joining us that Pakistan may be seven down but England need just two, rather than three, more wickets to win.

Pakistan tailender Abrar Ahmed was taken to hospital with a fever yesterday.

He missed all of day four and the Pakistan Cricket Board have already told us that he will not be involved today either.

Bashir to make way for Stokes seems the logical option. Root becomes second spinner. Next match is at the same ground, isn't it?

  12. 50 runs

Fifty for Aamerpublished at 50.4 overs

Aamer Jamal confidently defends the first three balls of Jack Leach's over.

The England left-arm spinner's fourth delivery is a little straighter and Aamer leans forward and flicks it through mid-on for a single to bring up his fifty.

    His second Test half-century.

Shaheen Shah Afridi clubs the ball down the ground and if you're a tailender you have the freedom to do that.

You are still trailing by 67 and you're trying to make the deficit as small as possible.

  14. Pak 200-7published at 50 overs

Shaheen Afridi with a slight smirk after he smears Brydon Carse's final ball of the over down through mid-off for four. That gets Pakistan up to 200.

Jack Leach hands his wide-brimmed hat to the umpire. His bonce looks a little pink as he begins his second over of the day.

In home Tests since the start of 2022, Pakistan's tailenders (numbers 9 to 11) average 8.4 runs per dismissal. Only Bangladesh (8.3) average lower at home in this timeline.

  16. Pak 195-7published at 49.1 overs

Aamer Jamal is not retreating into this shell. He wants to make England bat again.

Brydon Carse bangs it in short again and Aamer takes on the hook again, and helps the ball on its way to the boundary for four.

It's well bowled from Jack Leach - he has a knack at coming into his first over and taking wickets, that's what he did yesterday.

England are on the brink of winning this Test match.

    Gone!

Jack Leach had to wait an hour to bowl his first over and he strikes with his fourth ball of the day.

It was a tentative prod from Salman Agha to one which has gone through with the arm from the England left-arm spinner.

Three reds on the ball-tracking technology. England celebrate.
