Summary

  1. Postpublished at 2 overs

    Northants 9-1 v Somerset 215-3

Ricardo Vasconcelos slices the first ball for four past short-third man.

David Willey is off the mark straight away with a couple before they scramble a leg-bye.

Before a narrow escape as a beauty flies past the outside edge last ball!

  2. Postpublished at 1 over

    Northants 1-1 v Somerset 215-3

    Perfect start for Somerset.

And now Josh Davey with the ball.

George Bartlett against his old county tries to hit Craig Overton for six but gets it high on the bat and spoons it up to mid-on!

Craig Overton with the new ball and Northants have it all to do here.

  5. Somerset's big-scoring habitpublished at 19:57 British Summer Time 5 September

The last 3 times Somerset have batted first in a T20 Blast quarter-final:

    215 today

    265 in 2022 vs Derbyshire

    209 in 2018 v Notts

  6. 'Take that at Taunton'published at 20 overs

    Northants v Somerset 215-3

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

You thought it was a slow, sluggish wicket but that score has put Somerset in a very strong position.

You'd have taken that on a flat one at Taunton.

  7. Postpublished at 20 overs

    Northants v Somerset 215-3

The biggest groan of the night came for that worst piece of fielding of the night.

    Northants really looking rattled.

    Can Somerset get past 200?

    Yes they can.

Four for Lewis Gregory first ball, then a later late slog sweep behind square from Sean Dickson. Jack White is on a hiding to nothing bowling the last over in fairness.

Shot of the match comes from the penultimate delivery though. I have never, in 15 years of watching Lewis Gregory bat, seen him play that shot, but what a reverse scoop that is, way over the rope for six.

  8. 'Short boundary'published at 19 overs

    Northants v Somerset 198-3

They've chosen to bowl the final over with the short boundary to the leg side.

    Interesting decision by Northants.

Ben Sanderson has been great all night but no other bowler has got anywhere near that.

You cannot defend some of these fielding errors.

  9. Long barrier?!published at 19 overs

    Northants v Somerset 198-3

Already "this would have to be our record T20 knockout chase" is being heard from the Northants end of the press box to my left.

But amidst the carnage of his fellow bowlers, I do want to point out Ben Sanderson has bowled a wonderful T20 spell of four overs 1-23.

He has taken the pace off beautifully.

But last ball of his spell his figures are ruined by another shocker in the field, an easy one, missed, now rolling into the rope, no excuses there on the carpets the professionals play on.

  10. 'Somerset are flying'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 5 September

    Northants v Somerset 191-3

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

    Somerset are flying.

That was the over they needed to get right back in the innings again.

  11. Postpublished at 18 overs

    Northants v Somerset 191-3

Top scampering from this pair as always, turning mishits into twos between the boundaries.

David Willey is scythed over short third for four, too much width and with no cover there it was asking for it.

Sean Dickson then pulls out his speciality 'the Dickscoop' or the 'reverse reverse' he has pulled out a few times this year, a different way of getting it over third for four.

Then one more orthodoxly done. Three boundaries behind point on the offside has David Willey shaking his head!

  12. Postpublished at 17 overs

    Northants v Somerset 175-3

Another Northants misfield is fortunately well backed up by that man Justin Broad again.

Then Lewis Gregory runs two halves, Sean Dickson sends him back which was probably the right call, but Ben Sanderson misfields in his follow through and Gregory gets away with it.

Figures of 1-16 from three overs is top notch from Sanderson.

  13. wicket

    WICKET Kohler-Cadmore c Zaib b Sanderson 63published at 16.2 overs

    Northants v Somerset 171-3

Superb catch running and diving in from deep midwicket by Saif Zaib.

TKC cloths one off the toe into the sky, the fielder does not move particularly early, so has to make quick yards to get there on the slide.

Umpires go upstairs to check but they are happy enough.

Still no Tom Abell after his ton last week, Lewis Gregory brings himself in at five, for less than the last five overs as Mark Davis earlier said he should!

  14. 6 runs

Dickson joins in fun at Agar's expensepublished at 16 overs

    Northants v Somerset 169-2

Sean Dickson over backward square leg this time.

Ashton Agar continues to get panned, Somerset not worrying about any spin here, taking the ball on merit all around the ground at will.

A couple of well scampered twos as well, will Northants be able to risk bowling their overseas bowler a fourth over? He has gone for 46 off his first three!

  15. 6 runs

New ball please!published at 15.2 overs

    Northants v Somerset 159-2

Another six out of the ground, Tom Kohler-Cadmore gifting the neighbouring garden an expensive white kookaburra ball there.

Cannot see many watching from the nearby windows, surely there are a few, give us a wave?!

  16. 50 runs

    50 for Kohler-Cadmorepublished at 15 overs

    Northants v Somerset 150-2

Another guided edge between backward point and short third for three from former Yorkshire batter TKC takes him to 52no off 38 balls with four sixes and two fours.

After 17 dot balls, mostly in the first part of his innings, that is some acceleration.

  18. Postpublished at 14.4 overs

    Northants v Somerset 147-2

Back to seam from the Pavilion End as Jack White is given a third over.

Sean Dickson not coming in and teeing off quite as quickly as he did at the end of many August One-Day Cup games, but look how TKC exploded once he got in - the 50 over skipper will attempt to do similarly.

  19. Postpublished at 14 overs

    Northants v Somerset 145-2

Lewis McManus' gloves are in front of the stumps by a whisker as Northants appeal for a stumping off Tom Kohler-Cadmore.

That could have been interesting in any group stage game how they would have gone on that decision without technology.

No ball's free hit taken for six by TKC, technology costing Northants big time there as that no ball would have been impossible to spot with the naked eye from square leg.

  20. wicket

WICKET Banton c Bartlett b Zaib 75published at 19:25 British Summer Time 5 September

    Northants v Somerset 135-2

Banton goes for that slog sweep again and this time a relay catch is held, former Somerset man George Bartlett taking the catch officially but Justin Broad did all the hard work coming square from deep mid wicket.

The umpires opt to review, but no issues, good fielding by both.
