Summary

  1. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 13.1 overs

    Northants v Somerset 135-1

Tom Banton slog sweeps onto the roof of the Cinch stand first ball of the next set as Ben Warren, the Somerset admin, gets particularly excited in the press box about "sixes raining in Northampton tonight" but then...

  2. Postpublished at 13 overs

    Northants v Somerset 129-1

Tom Kohler-Cadmore finally has a strike rate of over 100, can he unleash from here and maybe this innings can get him going in an otherwise pretty torrid summer since he went and carried the drinks for Rajasthan Royals in April.

A straight six off Justin Broad (7-fer man last week do not forget) shows signs of him being back to his best now.

Head dipping into that nicely, then a pick up pull over backward square leg for six to end the over, TKC is back!

    14 off it.

  3. Postpublished at 12 overs

    Northants v Somerset 115-1

Saif Zaib to continue from the Sports Centre End, he is more economical than the former test spinner at t'other end.

More milking from the two, now set, Somerset right handers, plus a decent stop to save four at cover.

    Just five off it.

  4. 6 runs

    Postpublished at 11 overs

    Northants v Somerset 110-1

Tom Kohler-Cadmore finally gets going with a big six over long off, then an edge for three.

That odd numbered scoring shot gets Tom Banton back on strike to smash through cover for four, then over extra cover for six, then down the ground for four more.

    23 off the over.

Ashton Agar with no answers here.

  5. Postpublished at 10 overs

    Northants v Somerset 87-1

Tom Kohler-Cadmore paddle sweeps to fine leg for four.

He punches to long-off to end the over with a single.

Somerset really well placed here at halfway.

  6. 50 runs

for Tom Bantonpublished at 9.1 overs

    Northants v Somerset 81-1

Saif Zaib into the attack and Tom Banton clips his first ball for two wide of long-on to raise his fifty in just 31 balls.

  7. 'No support from the other end'published at 19:07 British Summer Time 5 September

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

Again beautifully timed by Tom Banton, Ben Sanderson only had 10 yards to go to his right but could not get there.

The timing was perfect, Banton timing the ball perfectly whilst Tom Kohler-Cadmore is really scratching around struggling to get going at the other end.

They cannot afford to go from just one end here though.

A platform is being set up by Banton with no support from the other end at all!

  8. Postpublished at 9 overs

    Northants v Somerset 79-1

Jack White given a second over with Tom Banton now in full flight.

But Tom Kohler-Cadmore continues to struggle and goes dot, dot, one.

Banton, by contrast, is onto a short delivery in a flash and pulls backward of square for four.

Another flick towards long leg brings two.

A single ends another healthy over for Somerset.

  9. 'Banton is playing an absolute blinder here'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 5 September

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

Why have they brought a wrist-spinner on from that end where Tom Banton is hitting with the spin into the leg side, wind assisted?

Somerset will not complain but it seems rather odd.

Suddenly momentum is really with Somerset, Banton is playing an absolute blinder here.

  10. Postpublished at 8 overs

    Northants v Somerset 71-1

Here's Freddie Heldreich with some left-arm wrist spin.

A stinking long-hop is only swung to deep square for one! Very lucky.

Before Tom Banton nails a slog sweep over cow corner for six!

Then he goes again, not as clean but gets it over the rope again!

Heldreich throws it outside off and Banton swings again and slices it over short-third man for four more.

    Big over. 18 from.

  11. 'He did not even lay a glove on it'published at 18:59 British Summer Time 5 September

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

It has gone straight through his hands, he did not even get a hand on it.

That was not Gus Miller's finest hour in the field.

That should have been an easy catch, though he did drop an absolute sitter in the Championship match against Middlesex.

He came in a little too far, got underneath it, then did not even lay a glove on it.

  12. dropped catch

    Dropped catchpublished at 7 overs

    Northants v Somerset 53-1

Ashton Agar is brought on and almost slips one through Tom Kohler-Cadmore first ball.

Tom Banton then slaps him to deep cover.

Before Kohler-Cadmore chips down to long-off.

But the chance goes straight through Gus Miller!

Didn't get a finger to it. Overran and the ball flew over his head!

  13. Agar into the attack and nearly strikes first ball!published at 18:57 British Summer Time 5 September

    Andrew Radd
    BBC Radio Northampton

How that has missed the off stump I am not entirely sure, that has missed the off stump by a whisker.

  14. Postpublished at 6 overs

    Northants v Somerset 49-1

Dave Willey takes the final over of the powerplay.

They take a leg-bye to short-fine leg before Tom Banton drives hard but is denied four by a good sliding save at mid-on by Ben Sanderson.

Tidy stuff and just singles before a dot to close the over.

A steady first six. Somerset happy to sit in and will be happy only one down.

Northants have leaked a few cheap runs but conditions in their favour.

  15. Postpublished at 18:53 British Summer Time 5 September

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

If Lewis (Gregory) comes in with 10 overs to go then I am worried, 5 overs to go is about perfect.

Little worry of that so far Mark, after the early wickets lost in the first innings the previous two nights, Somerset are coping ok against the wind and the swinging new ball so far.

  16. Postpublished at 5 overs

    Northants v Somerset 46-1

Jack White, playing just his fourth T20, is brought into the attack.

Tom Banton gives him the charge and swings and misses outside off.

He swings again and goes very high over mid-on - fielder running back can't get there in time but saves four.

Another skip down and a club down the ground with a much better connection for four.

Banton then goes off side but even into the wind carves it all the way for the first six of the night.

Tricky conditions but Somerset going well.

  17. Postpublished at 4 overs

    Northants v Somerset 34-1

Dave Willey, the Northants skipper, also with a second over.

But he again loses his line slightly and concedes a cheap boundary to fine leg.

The reason they want their line so tight is to avoid this - a meaty back-foot punch from Tom Banton past cover for four. Nice piece of timing.

Another wide swings down leg before Tom Banton takes a single to deep square and Tom Kohler-Cadmore is beaten driving outside off.

  18. 'Too much leg side' from Northants so farpublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 5 September

    Mark Davis
Former Somerset seamer on BBC Radio Somerset

They have been guilty so far of bowling too much leg side.

They have not quite got their line right trying to tuck them up.

David Willey is a canny customer though, with great variations of pace and great skills.

    But he over compensates there.

  19. Postpublished at 3 overs

    Northants v Somerset 24-1

Ben Sanderson with a second over.

Two wides to open up the third over before a sliced drive from Tom Banton brings a single to deep square.

Then some sharp nip into the new man Tom Kohler-Cadmore strikes him on the thigh.

He then has a walk at the bowler and gets one off the pads past short-fine leg for four.

Tailor-made conditions for the Northants attack it seems - can they make the most of it?

  20. 'A lot of movement off the pitch'published at 18:42 British Summer Time 5 September

    Mal Loye
    Former Northants and England batsman

There is a lot of movement with the new ball, not swing but off the pitch.

Last night Lancs got their length wrong, Ben Sanderson needs to get it right here.
