  1. dropped catch

Motie dropped on 7published at 43.1 overs

    Would you believe it?!

Jimmy puts one down in his follow-through!

Gudakesh Motie chips one back defensively, it's not coming that quickly but Anderson only sticks one hand out and puts it down! Agonising!

It would be so fitting if Jimmy can get the final wicket.

Gus Atkinson has match figures of 11-86 at the moment. If he can take another wicket without conceding 20 runs it will be the third-best figures on debut in Test history and the best for England.

Jayden Seales survives the rest of the over.

    Well bowled, Gus.

Over to you now, Jim. The Lord's crowd comes to life, they sense the opportunity for something special.

I don't think I've seen an England Test team catch as well as they have done this week. I know they have not been under a lot of pressure but their catching has been excellent from the first morning.

Come on, Gus. Do the right thing.

Let Jimmy get the last one!

  7. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42.2 overs

    S Joseph b Atkinson 3 (WI 103-9)

    Make it 11.

Gus Atkinson goes full, fast and knocks Shamar Joseph's off stump out of the ground.

He takes the ninth wicket in style and England are one away. Atkinson is taking all the limelight in Jimmy's farewell!

Anderson goes for a bit of the short stuff too, but it's not quite as effective as Atkinson's pace.

Also, as much as I'm gutted that Anderson's career is coming to an end, I'm selfishly glad we're not going to have these two bowling together. I'm constantly getting their surnames mixed up.

Think I'll just let his bowling do all the talking on this one.

  10. WI 97-8published at 41 overs

Shamar Joseph was injured yesterday, but has come out to bat - hopefully good news for the West Indies that he might be OK for the next Test.

Should he and Gudakesh Motie just try and whack a few, or keep England out for as long as possible?

Gus Atkinson is the seventh England player to take 10 wickets on Test debut, and the 19th overall in Test cricket.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.1 overs

    A Joseph c Duckett b Atkinson 8 (WI 96-8)

10 wickets in the match on debut!

The short ball works again for Gus Atkinson, as Alzarri Joseph keeps trying to take it on. He gets a top edge that flies down to Ben Duckett, who makes good ground from square leg to take a smart tumbling catch.

    It's Anderson's farewell, but it's Atkinson's dream debut.

    Oh, beautiful shot.

Gudakesh Motie with a lofted drive over mid-on for four!

  14. WI 92-7published at 39 overs

Even when he's not bowling, it's all about Anderson.

Gus Atkinson tests Gudakesh Motie out with the short stuff, including a nasty one that whacks him on the arm. Motie responds with a nicely-timed cut through the covers that is racing away for four, but a certain 41-year-old chases it all the way to the ropes and hauls it inside, saving a run.

    Ridiculous human.

Never had a message posted, but hope this one is! Lovely send-off for Jimmy before the final one when the game ends, regardless of result. Reminds me of the great send-off the superb Curtly and Courtney got at The Oval back in the day; walking off arms round each other to rapturous applause. I'm expecting Jimmy will get a similar response! Congratulations, wonderful career, looking forward to his input for future England teams.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 37.1 overs

    Da Silva c Smith b Anderson 9 (WI 88-7)

He's still got it, all right!

Beautiful movement through the air, a hint of seam off the pitch and that's unplayable. Joshua Da Silva can do nothing, it nips past his defensive prod and takes the outside edge through to the keeper.

    Vintage Anderson. Soak it in.

Jimmy should be allowed to play on until he has, at least, matched the wickets of the late, great Shane Warne.

    Chris in Cannock

I can’t believe that we are going to cut Jimmy off right at the point when we can get one over the Aussies. Surely let him overtake Shane Warne through this series and then we can go into the Ashes next year with moral superiority and the natural order of things rightly restored.
