Well, blocking won't get you anywhere in this scenario.

On his final day, a thought. Jimmy took his first wicket on debut in 2003 at Lords. Gus Atkinson does the same in 2024. Therefore we can watch him get his 700th wicket in 2045.

Alzarri Joseph is going to have some fun out there, and why not?

He slogs Gus Atkinson into the leg side but it lands safely, and plugs in the outfield for a couple of runs.

    He's still got it.

  5. WI 79-6published at 36 overs

Oooohs and aaahs as Jimmy beats the outside edge of Joshua Da Silva on a couple of times, getting through a typically unplayable Anderson maiden.

Watchful so far from the West Indies.

  6. WI 79-6published at 35 overs

    That was quite something.

But it's back to business as usual, with Gus Atkinson to finish his over from last night - there is one ball remaining after he removed Jason Holder with the fifth ball of it yesterday.

Alzarri Joseph can safely let it go down the leg side and now it's time for Anderson again.

The crowd are still on their feet. James Anderson is trying hard to keep this together.

And here is the guard of honour.

James Anderson gets a wonderful reception as expected, although he doesn't seem to be lapping it up quite as much as Stuart Broad was last year!

He gets hugs and handshakes from both his team-mates and opposition, while the camera pans to his wife, parents and children in the crowd who look like they have tears in their eyes.

What a day, what a player. We'll miss you, Jimmy!

April Hall: I am definitely not emotionally equipped for this being the last time that Jimmy plays Test cricket. Can we have a referendum on reversing this please?

For West Indies, the result is inevitable and they are already at the stage of playing for pride. They have got a further two Tests to try and put things right, and get back to the version of themselves that beat Australia at the Gabba back in January.

They bowled relatively well considering the fact they had no runs on the board to work with. Former legendary batter Brian Lara spoke to the Stumped podcast about the issues facing West Indies cricket and said it wouldn't simply be solved by money.

While one career is coming to an end, it was a bright start for Jamie Smith at the other end of the spectrum. The wicketkeeper made 70 batting at number seven as England pushed ahead to take a sizeable lead.

We've already had some emotional moments over the past two days regarding Anderson's farewell.

His daughters were in charge of ringing the bell at the start of play on day one, and then he received a standing ovation from the Lord's crowd as he came out to bat yesterday (although he didn't even end up facing a ball).

Today, likely to be the last time we see him with ball in hand, may be the most emotional of all. Are we ready?

Welcome to day three, likely to be the final day, of England's first Test of the summer. West Indies' dismal batting has meant that our goodbye to Jimmy Anderson has come a little prematurely - they are 79-6 in their second innings, still a whopping 171 runs behind England's 371.

Anderson already has two of those wickets, and we're in for another emotional day seeing him with the ball in hand for the last time in Test cricket.

He'll be leading the charge in England's quest for the four final Windies wickets this morning alongside debutant Gus Atkinson, who also has two wickets and is one away from a 10-fer at the first time of asking.
