He walks off shaking his head, David Warner.

A little bit late on it and Warner pushes it to Marcus Stoinis, who takes a straightforward catch.

Trent Rockets needed that as London Spirit have got off to a decent start.

    Warner c Stoinis b Ferguson 6 (Spirit 29-1)

    And Ferguson strikes!

Jamie Smith had crunched one for four previously in the over but the bowler responds well, though it's a soft dismissal from the in-form Warner.

He chips a simple catch to Marcus Stoinis at cover and departs for six - a huge wicket for Trent Rockets.

  3. Spirit 25-0published at 15 balls

Akeal Hosein succeeds in clawing back a bit of control for the Rockets, just five runs conceded including a slog sweep from Jamie Smith that just evades the fielder at square leg.

And it's one extreme to the other as the absolutely rapid Lockie Ferguson replaces the spinner.

Something that the London Spirit have not done is take advantage of the powerplay in this year's edition of The Hundred.

David Warner knows you can go long periods of time without facing the ball, but when you do, you need to capitalise on it.

Smith's aggression should take the pressure off David Warner a bit, as he thumps Sam Cook down the ground for his first boundary.

Rockets turn to spin early, as Akeal Hosein comes into the attack.

David Willey has been hit for just four sixes when he has bowled the first set of the innings. Two of them have come from Jamie Smith today. The last time he was hit for a six while bowling the first set was 29 games ago in 2022 by Phil Salt.

I absolutely love watching Jamie Smith bat. He barely moves, flicks it off his pads, and he does not miss out at all.

Exceptional shot from a very good player.

  8. 6 runs

    Spirit 12-0published at 5 balls

    And again!

Cracking start from Smith, this is just what Spirit coach Justin Langer would've asked of him.

    Lovely from Jamie Smith.

Slightly fuller from David Willey, angling the ball in towards the right hander.

Smith, having missed the first two, was on to that one quickly.

  10. 6 runs

    Spirit 6-0published at 3 balls

And that's why he's been promoted!

Jamie Smith slams his third ball for six!

Kane Williamson has struggled at the top of the order, and has changed something because London Spirit need to start winning some games.

  12. Spirit 0-0published at 1 ball

Trent Rockets skipper David Willey will get things under way, as he bowls to Jamie Smith and is driven crisply, but straight to the fielder.

Box office with these two teams. There will be a lot of eyes on this game as David Warner and Joe Root are involved!

So there's a change in the batting line-up for London Spirit, with Jamie Smith replacing Kane Williamson at the top of the order.

Smith recently became England's new white-ball opener, so this feels like a sensible move considering Spirit's struggles in the powerplay so far.

It'll be their third different opening combination in four games, but they'll be hoping this one is more successful considering they were bowled out for just 80 the last time they played at home...

5-0 Australia Ashes win is 'stupid' - David Warner

    Speaking of Root and Warner...

England's star batter has responded to the former Australia opener's comments about his batting ahead of this winter's Ashes, saying the sledging is "all part of the fun".

Warner told BBC Sport: "Josh Hazlewood tends to have his number quite a lot. He will have to take the surfboard off his front leg" but Root shrugged it off lightly.

Root is yet to score a Test century in Australia but is in fantastic form as England travel down under to try and regain the Ashes in November.
