  3. 'Important to stay focused'published at 14:14 British Summer Time 12 October

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine: "I'm really pleased. I don't think we bowled as well as we know we can, but to restrict Sri Lanka and stay in the contest as long as we did then chase it down...Georgia Plimmer was outstanding today. I am super proud of a youngster going out there and sticking to her strengths. It's just what we have asked for and I'm really happy for her today."

On whether they talked about net run rate: "We actually didn't, to be perfectly honest. We set targets at the innings break and that was always to get us to win in the 17th or 18th over, but we know that winning the game is the most important thing.

"We will see how results play out tomorrow then by the time of our final game against Pakistan we will know exactly where we stand. It is really important for this group to stay focused and present. So I am really pleased. We will celebrate tonight's win but go back to the drawing board for a really important last game."

  4. 'We were 25-30 runs short'published at 14:09 British Summer Time 12 October

Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu: "We have not played our best cricket in this tournament, we needed another 25-30 runs on this surface. Our bowlers did their best but it wasn't enough.

"We have played good cricket in the last 12 months, but not at this tournament. Expectations were high, but we lost in our first game against Pakistan and our mindset was going down. We kept trying but it didn't go well for us."

We all come into this with high hopes for Sri Lanka as they've had a fantastic year.

It is so disappointing to not see Chamari Athapaththu showcase [her game] at this World Cup - Sri Lanka will go home disappointed.

  6. 'Played my brand of cricket'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 12 October

Player of the match Georgia Plimmer: "We have talked a lot as a group about how we want to attack the powerplay in these conditions and I think to be out there with someone like Suzie Bates and talk through the options it really goes a long way.

"It's about being aggressive and just being able to play my brand of cricket. Sometimes it might not come off but if I can get the team off to a good start like that I am happy. I have just wanted to back my skills lately and have had some good conversations with the coaches, and older players, about going out there and just playing my game.

"It's a pretty special group that we have got and we talk about it a lot that the White Ferns love each other outside of cricket. The group is clear on how we want to play and attack. World Cups don't come along too often so it's about putting our best foot forward. We've had a tough six months so to come here and get a few wins under our belt is great for our confidence."

  8. 'All the pressure is on India'published at 14:01 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt

On what New Zealand will do when they face Pakistan...

It can be a tactical way of how New Zealand will go about it. They might change their middle order so the middle order isn't exposed - they've not had enough of a hit.

It is hard to call how things are going to go, but New Zealand will feel confident and relaxed.

All the pressure is on India.

  9. New Zealand win by eight wicketspublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 12 October

New Zealand would prefer Australia to win tomorrow - that can't happen very often, can it? - and then they will know they must beat Pakistan in their final game.

  10. 'Well-thought out cricket'published at 13:57 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It went exactly how I thought it would go.

I don't think anyone expected New Zealand to go hell for leather, we all know what Chamari Athapaththu can do on her own and the threat of that is not worth dangling the carrot.

It felt like get the job done kind of day. It was well-thought out cricket.

It has gone the way I thought it would and if there is going to be any craziness it will be against Pakistan.

  11. New Zealand win by eight wicketspublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 12 October

Winning with 15 balls to spare could make a big difference in the final analysis for that semi-final place. Sri Lanka bowled well, another 20-30 runs might have made that run chase tricky.

Sophie Devine smashes Sugandika high over midwicket for a huge six to win the match in style!

Just a hit away now as Sophie Devine takes strike.

  14. NZ 106-2published at 16.3 overs

Melie Kerr drills Sachini Nisansala back past the bowler to long off, where the fielder is slow off the mark and allowing the batters to run a quick two. The bowler looks irked, to say the least.

  15. NZ 103-2published at 16 overs

    Target: 116

Melie Kerr drops to one knee to leg and flays Udeshika Prabodhani right out of the screws over point for four.

New Zealand are in touching distance now.

  17. NZ 96-2published at 15.1 overs

    Target: 116

As a shattered Georgia Plimmer divests herself of her pads and sweat-soaked gloves just over the rope, Sophie Devine joins Melie Kerr.

Will they try to blast to the target quickly, or take their time?

  18. 'Athapaththu strikes'published at 13:41 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Chamari Athapaththu strikes for her first wicket.

She is one from eight in two overs and I thinks she should have bowled in the powerplay.

Teams think they can go after her, but I think she's one of the better bowlers in this team.

Athapaththu has been around the globe playing in a lot of franchise teams and she is required to bowl a lot.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.4 overs

    Plimmer c Nilakshika b Athapaththu 53 (NZ 92-2)

It's a weary-looking heave from Georgia Plimmer to the leg side, Nilakshika comes in off the rope a few paces and takes the catch in her midriff.

  20. NZ 92-1published at 14 overs

    Target: 116

Kerr looks to be in the mood to get this over with quickly, lifting Dilhari high over mid off for four. A similar effort from Plimmer isn't timed as well and she gets two more.

She's only hit four boundaries, so all that running in the Sharjah heat must be taking its toll.
