  1. NZ 35-0published at 6 overs

It's not quite happened for Suzie Bates yet, but a nice lofted drive carved over the off side gives her her first boundary off Sugandika Kumari.

Bates tries another heave, but an inside edge to leg hints at her struggles to time it at the moment.

New Zealand just needed a new bowler [to get a boundary].

Inoshi Fernando finds the stumps, but the length wasn't great.

That over was an over which should have created a wicket.

All the pressure had been created and something had to give!

  3. NZ 30-0published at 5 overs

Sri Lanka were building up some pressure, but more shoddy fielding has seen another nine runs leaked from Inoshi Fernando's first over. One fielder manages to kick the ball further away towards the rope, and the bowler then allows a straight drive through her hands.

Finally, we do see a four as Georgia Plimmer strides down the pitch to Inoshi Fernando's first delivery, smacking it back past the off spinner.

  6. NZ 17-0published at 4 overs

The keeper Anushka Sanjeewani is standing up the stumps for everything now to keep the Kiwi openers honest. They're trying to unfurl the big shots, bit a couple of heaves are inside-edged for singles rather than boundaries - of which, we haven't seen any yet.

  7. 'Sri Lanka are bowling well'published at 12:48 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Sri Lanka are bowling very well with good line, length and pace - they've had a disciplined reply.

New Zealand might have to change it up a bit.

  8. NZ 12-0published at 3 overs

Sugandika Kumari keeps it tight again, but she's not helped when a clumsy piece of fielding by Fernando at mid-off allows the openers to run two.

They're thinking of a third when the ball gets back to the bowler and a split second a run out seems possible but Bates gets back to her crease having wandered down.

  9. NZ 8-0published at 2 overs

Udeshika Prabodhani's left-arm over the wicket seam takes over number two.

There's a nervy moment for Georgia Plimmer when a clip off her pads hangs in the air as it drifts past square leg, but that aside the openers are happy to nudge and nurdle it around for five off that over.

  10. 'Bates shaping up nicely'published at 12:41 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

She has showed some good signs Suzie Bates.

I don't want to jinx her, but she's been shaping up quite nicely.

  11. NZ 3-0published at 1 over

Suzie Bates nudges Sugandika Kumari to leg to get off the mark, followed quickly by Georgia Plimmer driving down the ground.

Bates then shows off a bit of innovation with a reverse-lap to third to nip a quick single off the final ball.

  12. NZ 0-0published at 0.1 overs

The left-arm spin of Sugandika Kumari is first up, and Suzie Bates pushes away the first delivery into the off side.

  13. 'A fresh wicket'published at 12:37 British Summer Time 12 October

    Katherine Sciver-Brunt
Ex-England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

It's a fresh wicket to previous games here.

The outfield looks quicker and it's hard to know when you turn up to a game what score is par.

Sri Lanka have had a huddle by the boundary, ending in a big cheer - positive vibes, they'll be keen to end on a win but New Zealand have to be favourites.

Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer are striding out to the middle, we're all set.

  15. Winning 'scrappily' feels goodpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 12 October

More from England captain Heather Knight: "It is hot, it’s something you have to manage. Your fitness is really important. It’s our only day game in the group stage and hopefully we can deal with it well.

"I love the fact that we've won really scrappily actually - I think that's something that bodes really well in tournament cricket.

"Previously we wanted to play in one way and didn’t really adapt but the last year or so we’ve really gained some skills in terms of our smartness."

  16. 'There are no easy games'published at 12:33 British Summer Time 12 October

England captain Heather Knight has been speaking to BBC Sport before her side's Group B match against Scotland on Sunday...

"Having five days off in the middle of the World Cup is quite strange," she said. "We’ve just been having some time to recharge and refocus for a really big week ahead.

"There are no easy games in the World Cup. Scotland have got a lot of girls who play in our domestic league, strong players – the Bryce sisters in particular.

"We’re not taking them lightly at all. It’s a really good challenge and they’re going to be absolutely gunning for us.

"We’ve got to be prepared for that and keep building on the really good stuff we’ve done."
