Summary

  1. Aus 170-3published at 62 overs

Wicket maiden for Sophie Ecclestone as new batter Beth Mooney sees off the last one in the over.

Yep, it's Mooney in now. Things don't get any easier for England's bowlers.

There is still Ellyse Perry, Ash Gardner and Tahlia McGrath to come but one at a time, eh?

It would be fair to say that Alyssa Healy is not happy, shaking her head, hands on hips. It was very close, I felt it may have got inside edge but that was hard to overturn.

You could look at it 15 times and have 15 different answers. It looks like it hit bat and pad simultaneously.

    Healy lbw b Ecclestone 34 (Aus 170-3)

    Gone!

No conclusive evidence either way on whether it's bat or pad first, says the third umpire, so it sticks with the on-field decision.

Ball-tracking confirms it was going on to hit the top of middle and a distinctly unimpressed Alyssa Healy has to go.

A much-deserved wicket for Sophie Ecclestone after those three missed chances off her bowling in the first session of the day.

Well, good luck to the third umpire figuring this one out.

It is incredibly close whether it's bat or pad first.

I reckon that's hit pad first.

There might've been an inside edge.

  7. Australia reviewpublished at 61.5 overs

Sophie Ecclestone hits Alyssa Healy on the front pad and up goes the umpire's finger.

The Australia captain reviews immediately, though, so must be confident that she's hit it.

    But was it pad first?

I'm not sure that England will win this battle with the umpires to change the ball.

England try to get the ball changed again, they are convinced that it's out of shape and it does look like they may have a point.

    The umpires aren't budging, though.

So the tourists will have to crack on with the ball they have as Sophie Ecclestone returns after a change of ends.

Alyssa Healy has gone past the 30-run mark on eight occasions in her Test career. Unlike Sutherland, she's converted only three of those starts to fifty-plus scores with a highest of 99 (v SA at Perth, 2024).

She's been dismissed on five occasions before getting to a half-century after she's got those starts.

I think we'll see more cross seam balls delivered to try and force an lbw.

  12. Aus 170-2published at 61 overs

    Scores are level

Another maiden from Nat Sciver-Brunt and the all-rounder is starting to find a bit of movement as she mixes things up.

A cutter grips a little and holds its line to find Annabel Sutherland's outside edge but the ball goes along the ground to gully.

All going very smoothly for Australia since the break.

England need something to change and Heather Knight wants the ball changed.

The umpires are having none of it, though.

I think Australia have done well with their game plans and have done their best to nullify England's stronger players.

  16. Aus 170-2published at 60 overs

    Scores are level

I'm not sure I can see England taking 18 wickets and batting again that quickly, Mark. Oh...

Well, yes, as Australia level the scores at the end of an over that began with Alyssa Healy expertly guiding the ball down to deep third for four, that is not the most outlandish prediction.

Just as I was writing how comfortable both Australia batters are looking out there, Nat Sciver-Brunt gets one to nip back off the seam.

It very nearly gets through the defences of Annabel Sutherland but a combination of bat and pad just about keep it out.

It is becoming increasingly difficult for England to take wickets. They need to keep building that dot ball pressure.

  20. Aus 159-2published at 58 overs

Three singles from Lauren Bell's over as Australia close in on England's first-innings total.

The tourists need to come up with something soon if they are to avoid giving up a big deficit.
