It wasn't good. How much has the heat played a part?

The TV have just shown a gadget that tells us the temperature has just ticked over 40 degrees.

    Toasty.

I'm going to put it out there, that was the lowest quality first 10 overs I've seen from England in a decade.

It was baffling. It is almost like there is a collective malaise and bug through the whole team. They seem to be taking an age to get up off the field.

It has been very uncharacteristically messy from England in the powerplay today. They have started so well in the powerplay in this tournament.

Linsey Smith has dominated that phase but when it hasn't happened for her today, England have struggled, but New Zealand haven't punished them enough for it.

  4. NZ 58-1published at 11 overs

    Well, England needed that.

A tidy over from Nat Sciver-Brunt with only a single from it.

But after a slow start, New Zealand are going well now.

Just two of Linsey Smith's first 24 balls have hit a good line and length, with four full tosses bowled.

Comparing this to the game against Sri Lanka, when Smith was at her most accurate, she bowled 15 of her first 24 balls on a good line and length.

  6. NZ 57-1published at 10 overs

More of the same, I'm afraid, England fans...

Charlie Dean's first ball is walloped through mid-wicket for four by Melie Kerr.

The off-spinner manages to recover the over with just a single from the next five balls but England will be thrilled that the powerplay is over and they can get a couple more fielders out now.

This is all very, very messy. It's a bit like a fever dream.

England haven't bowled like this in the whole tournament. Is it the heat? It is very warm and humid.

  8. NZ 52-1published at 9 overs

    Kerr 21, Plimmer 20

Nat Sciver-Brunt replaces Lauren Bell but England's inconsistent bowling continues.

A half-tracker from the skipper, a real 'hit me' ball and Georgia Plimmer obliges.

Pulled powerfully in front of square for four.

Four more to end the over, slower and fuller from Sciver-Brunt but too wide and Plimmer gets it past short third.

We're being told that Sophie Ecclestone has jarred her left shoulder and is currently being assessed.

It is a hard watch with Linsey Smith at the moment to be honest. She's been so consistent in this tournament.

  11. NZ 43-1published at 8 overs

Linsey Smith's struggles continue - if anything, they reach new heights.

A short wide ball is cut away for four by Melie Kerr before the next one slips from Smith's grasp for a high full toss - a no-ball - that is clubbed leg side to the boundary.

Kerr charges the free hit and drills through the covers for a third boundary before making it four in a row with superb back-foot punch through the off side.

Surely, that has to be it for Smith in this spell?

England's bowling hasn't been shambolic but it has been very untidy.

This pitch feels slow and it doesn't feel like it is a good one.

England have bowled badly and they have got away with it.

  14. NZ 25-1published at 7 overs

Play and a miss. That might be the first we've seen today.

Full, tempting ball from Lauren Bell and Georgia Plimmer throws everything at it on the drive but gets nothing but fresh air.

Melie Kerr is the new batter, by the way, and she and Plimmer combine for three off the over.

Sophie Ecclestone still isn't back on the pitch. There will be some concern from England.

Just 7% of Linsey Smith’s deliveries from her first three overs have been on a good line and length - in the tournament previously we have seen her hitting the spot with 35-40% of deliveries.

  17. NZ 22-1published at 6 overs

Linsey Smith gets out of a successful over with a wicket and just one run from it, despite continuing to struggle for control.

It seems like the spinner is struggling to grip the new ball in the sweltering Vizag heat.

That ends a miserable World Cup campaign for Suzie Bates. She's scored just 40 runs in five innnings, and a high-score of 29.

That should have clubbed out of Visakhapatnam. It is an abject way to get out.

If that is her final act as a batter in an ODI World Cup, then it is filthy.

    It is a miserable dismissal.

'Miserable dismissal!' - Bates hits Smith full toss straight to Lamb at mid-off

    Goodness me.

A horrible full toss again from Linsey Smith and Suzie Bates plinks it straight to sub fielder Emma Lamb at mid-off.

A well-known cricketing phrase that I can't repeat here comes to mind.

Not quite how Smith would have planned it but they all count.
