I think 209 feels about 50 short of par. Inexperience in the top order giving away good starts and some terrific bowling by Jayden Seales, Matthew Forde and Gudakesh Motie has left England with a mountain to climb.

  2. 'I think it's chase-able'published at 21:25 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October

West Indies bowler Jayden Seales: "I'm very pleased with the performance. I was frustrated in Sri Lanka, I was rushing everything. In training yesterday I tried to slow everything down.

"We knew that the guys at the top of the order loved to play square of the wicket so the idea was to bowl straight and if they scored well done to them. Just remain top of the stumps and get them playing down the ground. When we stick to our plans we get results as you saw today.

"The spinners stuck to their task even though the wicket was not assisting. They bowled stump to stump and varied their pace.

    "I think it's chase-able."

  3. West Indies need 210 to winpublished at 21:24 Greenwich Mean Time 31 October

Adil Rashid and John Turner trudge off. Well below par for England.

  4. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 45.1 overs

Rashid c Forde b Joseph (Eng 209 all out)

Adil Rashid tamely flicks a delivery back of a length from Alzarri Joseph into the hands of Matthew Forde at wide mid-on.

England's top order all got starts but were unable to really kick on.

  5. Eng 209-9published at 45 overs

John Turner looks a capable-ish number 11. He manages to survive and pick up a couple of singles to boot.

West Indies will desperately want to finish this off quickly now. With six overs remaining England could still eke out another 30 runs

  7. Eng 206-9published at 44 overs

England's run rate has marginally increase to 4.66 but this looks well short of a testing total, baring some heroics from Adil Rashid.

Another debutant, John Turner, joins Rashid at the crease.

    Archer c Hope b Joseph 7 (Eng 204-9)

A flurry of boundaries, then a wicket.

Jofra Archer works a short ball off his hips for four off Alzarri Joseph down through fine leg for four.

But next ball Archer skies an attempted pull off Joseph and West Indies captain Shai Hope walks a few paces forward to take a simple catch.

This is all looking pretty ugly now for England. Curran clearly felt he was running out of time and partners but you can’t help feeling they’ve failed to assess what a good score might be on this challenging surface.

Hollywood Cricket Club - you're talking my language now, David.

After 45 deliveries England have a boundary as Adil Rashid whips the second ball of Matthew Forde's over through mid-wicket for four in a rather ungainly an unorthodox way.

Similarly to 20:59, it's only the second time in the last 38 years that all of England's top six have crossed 15 without ANY of them going on to make a 50.

Halloween cricketers? Boris Karloff played for the Hollywood Cricket Club and even taught the game at UCLA. You can't get much more Halloweeny than Frankenstein's Monster padding up for your team!

  14. ouch!

    Eng 191-8published at 42 overs

Jofra Archer is the new batter at the crease with Adil Rashid as England look to eke themselves towards some sort of total.

Their current run-rate is a relatively unthreatening 4.55 at the moment.

Alzarri Joseph delivers a vicious short ball to Archer off the penultimate ball of the over, which strikes the England quick bowler on the shoulder as he turns away. Ouch.

Quite why Sam Curran didn't wait until after Gudakesh Motie's final over to start the fireworks is a little puzzling.

In England's ODI golden era (2015-2019), there were just five occasions in five years that none of the top six reached fifty in a match. Since the start of last year alone, it's happened seven times.

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.1 overs

    Curran c Hetmyer b Motie 37 (Eng 187-8)

    Gone. England in big trouble.

Sam Curran decides now is the time to go big but is unable to hit the first ball of Gudakesh Motie's final over off the meet of the bat.

As a result he cannot get the distance and Shimron Hetmyer takes a comfortable catch down at long-on.

Jayden Seales has a determined and focused expression on his face as he bounds into the crease.

Rather awkwardly Adil Rashid digs out a full delivery from Seales into the leg side, then later in the over defends high to pick up a single down at third.
