The red ball team arrive off the back of a 2-1 reverse in Pakistan in October, having comfortably won home series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka in the summer.
New Zealand meanwhile play the first Test of their home summer, having pulled off one of the great series victories in their last outing as they beat India 3-0 on home turf.
