    Thanks, Sam.

Had to rub the sleep from eyes to be certain I had not imagined that catch from Glenn Phillips a little earlier. An absolute screamer.

More excellent fielding from Glenn Phillips, diving to cut off Ben Stokes' well-timed shot and then fling the ball at the stumps as the England skipper scrambled to get back into his crease.

Will O'Rourke then tests Stokes with a short ball but the left-hander is more than a match for it, swivelling to pull to it behind square for four.

Time for drinks and time for us to make a change. Timothy Abraham is back to see you through the remainder of day two.

After Ben Stokes clips off his pads for a couple, Tim Southee changes approach and hangs a few wide outside off.

The England captain is happy to watch them go by and wait for Southee to come back to him.

He does and Stokes flicks to fine leg for a single.

Seven from the over and Harry Brook has moved into the 80s.

To say he's ridden his luck would be an understatement but in between those three drops, he has batted well.

The Yorkshireman won't care that New Zealand have given him so many lives, only that he's still out in the middle batting.

  5. Eng 230-5published at 55.2 overs

Short, wide and Harry Brook carves the ball over gully for four.

Poor ball from Nathan Smith and Brook punishes it, making absolutely sure to get the height on it to keep it well out of reach of Glenn Phillips!

  6. Eng 226-5published at 55 overs

Maiden over from Tim Southee to Ben Stokes.

The England left-hander shows a couple of signs that he is starting to acclimatise to conditions.

One being a crisp drive that can't beat the in-field, another being his taking a couple of steps down the pitch before blocking a full ball from Southee.

Brook has been circumspect against good length deliveries today, striking at "just" 45 - steady for him. He's taken on the bouncers effectively though, with 29 runs from 26 short balls.

  8. Eng 226-5published at 54 overs

Harry Brook times the ball nicely through the off side for two before turning the strike over to Ben Stokes with a single.

The England skipper is taking his time to get his eye in but gets off the mark by flicking Nathan Smith to deep backward square for one.

Press Association's Rory Dollard: How's your luck Ollie Pope? New Zealand have dropped everything all day then he goes to an absolute worldie by Glenn Phillips.

That catch gets better with every viewing. One of the best you'll see from Glenn Phillips.

Double Nelson did strike and it brings Ben Stokes to the crease with England still trailing by 126.

    Wicket maiden from Tim Southee.

Ollie Pope played nicely, but that is just a brilliant catch from Glenn Phillips. A moment that turns games? It's just lovely to watch. If it's coming like that it's a split second. Pure instinct.

Stunning catch from Glenn Phillips! Absolutely ridiculous in the gully.

Short from Tim Southee and Ollie Pope nailed the cut shot but Phillips flung himself to his right and plucked the ball out of the air one-handed.

Just remarkable fielding to break a brilliant partnership.

  14. Eng 222-4published at 51 overs

    Brook 76, Pope 77

Ollie Pope pulls for a single to end the Nathan Smith over.

Both England batters look comfortable at the crease now but the tourists are now on double Nelson so let's all be careful for a moment.

Ollie Pope has enjoyed the freedom he's had at No.6 compared to batting at three. At No.3 he looks frenetic but today he has looked the part. We know when he gets going he looks good.

New Zealand could've had a wicket in that over, instead England take six from it as they continue to progress at a decent lick.

In case you're counting, that's three wicketkeepers who have put down catches for the Black Caps.

Another life for Harry Brook as he hammers Glenn Phillips out towards the leg-side boundary.

The ball hangs in the air, though, and Devon Conway comes racing around, gets there in time but shells the catch.

New Zealand are not helping themselves.

Nathan Smith is back into the attack and things get lively pretty quickly.

The seamer gets one to nip back to Harry Brook before deflecting to wrong-foot Tom Blundell and go away to the boundary.

Was there an inside edge? No, off the body for leg byes - and it was a no-ball as well so perhaps just as well for New Zealand the ball didn't go to hand.

Harry Brook reaches 2,000 Test runs for England in his 36th innings. Only the great Herbert Sutcliffe, in 33 knocks, reached that landmark faster for England.
