A point I haven't seen discussed - this hasn't looked the fastest outfield ever, which favours England's more aggressive batting style, but it means NZ may be looking at getting a large amount of 600+ runs on their legs or change their batting approach for more boundaries.

Root clips O'Rourke off his legs for four at fine leg, moving to 95.

New Zealand have seen enough, they'll take the new ball.

In case you're wondering, the highest target set in Test cricket is 836, posted by England for West Indies to chase in 1930. It was a timeless Test, but rained on days eight and nine (there was also a rest day), so they called it a draw with West Indies 408-5.

  4. Eng 406-5published at 80 overs

There goes Joe Root again, lofting Henry to mid-wicket for four, then cleaving the ball just over the top of Glenn Phillips at cover for another boundary.

England past 400 now, leading by 561 - Root seems inclined to crack on to his century, then I think we may see the declaration pretty swiftly.

Meanwhile the new ball is now available for New Zealand.

It feels like New Zealand's win in India has taken a lot out of them, it was a huge effort.

They managed to adapt brilliantly in that series but if you think about it the number of overs bowled in that series by the bowlers, are probably not the bowlers being used here.

It is England's brilliance that has allowed them to dominate from day one, but New Zealand's lack of depth will concern them. They are lacking options.

What has happened to NZ since their incredible 3-0 win in India?!

Ouch, Joe Root clips O'Rourke's short ball into his helmet.

The former England skipper seems unfazed, but we'll have a short break as protocol dictates that the lid must be replaced.

The wicket seems to be good to bat on at the moment and there is plenty of time. Bat on for at least another 50 overs if we can and wear the Kiwi's and the wicket down a bit. Make it as easy as possible for our bowlers. There is another test starting within a week.

Eeesh, Ben Stokes punches the ball back powerfully at Matt Henry.

It's close to the body and Henry doesn't have much time to manuveur, his eyes open as wide as saucers and the ball bounces off his hands and hits the deck.

England take two, and Joe Root follows up with the day's first boundary, a lofty pull to the mid-wicket boundary from the final delivery of the over.

Bambi vs Godzilla so far. A team brimming with confidence to England's degree is so fun to watch.

The towering Will O'Rourke gets New Zealand under way - if the breeze is strong at pitch level I imagine it's absolutely hellish at the snowcapped crown of his head.

England start positively with Stokes, who resumes on 35 from 26, and Root (73 from 106), cutting and pulling uppishly for six runs from the over.

The players are out on the field under grey skies at Wellington.

Ben Stokes was on the charge last night, as England scored 63 runs from the last ten overs of day two.

Same again this morning? You'd suspect so...

It does feel like they have, and Ben Stokes has been key to that resurgence.

He admitted that Pakistan was a very tough tour for him and he's back to where he's so familiar.

It looks like England are a very happy and relaxed camp and they have played scintillating cricket. Their attitude to want to dominate has really paid dividends.

Things are coming together really nicely for England and that is a good place for Stokes to be. When you're in good form yourself, it is so much easier to take an interest in all the others in the team and be clear about the task ahead.

For those who've endured Storm Darragh today, the conditions in Wellington will be somewhat familiar.

No rain, fortunately, but it's extremely windy, with BBC Weather forecasting wind speeds of around 50mph.

Difficult conditions in the field especially, this won't be a cakewalk for England when they seek to bowl New Zealand out.

Yes, this Test has certainly rattled along, with England motoring along at around five an over through the match and dismissing New Zealand for 125 inside 35 overs.

England resume on 378-5 with Joe Root and Ben Stokes at the crease. Can they complete a victory today?

783 runs, 25 wickets, a hat-trick for Gus Atkinson, a century for Harry Brook, dismissals in the 90s for Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell and a 533-run lead for England.

It's been a Test jam-packed with action - but can the tourists go on to wrap up victory on day five of the second Test in Wellington?

    Wait, what?

    Day three, you say?

    Blimey.
