The only problem about this situation for India is that if they deliver anything loose, these two are going to take a hit at it and because it's a new ball, it's going to go flying.

Jamie Smith doesn't need long to get his eye in against Mohammed Siraj. The second ball of the over bounces through the covers for four.

Two balls later, there's applause all around Edgbaston as he runs two to bring up his and Harry Brook's 300 partnership. They just keep going.

The physio comes out to have a look at Harry Brook's leg.

Following Shrewbury Film's message (14:39) about England's XI being made up of only 14 syllables, I spent the afternoon session trying to find the scorecard of a County Championship game featuring about half a dozen players with double-o names.

I'm pleased to say I've found it. Lancashire v Glamorgan in 2021 - three double-os for Glamorgan, two for Lancashire, and one umpire.

Anyway, Brook back on his feet and ready to continue.

The top order must be kicking themselves that they have missed out on such a great batting surface!

I think the Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum era has evolved wonderfully to the point where even if we have a bad session we are confident we can turn it around. Less despair, more excitement. Wonderful.

England could be eyeing a declaration here.

None of these balls have been middled or well timed by these batters. We can really see the ball doing something now.

Akash Deep has got a very economical action.

What was Harry Brook doing there? He comes skipping down to the second ball of Akash Deep's over but the new ball balloons over his bat. It's later called a no ball but he didn't know that when he came charging out.

He looks like he's cramping too, but finds time to have a laugh with Deep as he hobbles a single. He's doing a lot of stretching at the non-striker's end.

Deep is briefly interested in a possible lbw against Jamie Smith but no one else is.

This is critical for India. If they can break up this partnership, England will be in a terrible position. They need to see if they can get the ball to do something because they haven't looked very threatening today.

To take a new ball on a very flat pitch that isn't doing anything against two batsmen who are both over 150 and will play anything, we could see it fly about here.

Smith hits successive fours to move closer to 150

It’s just dawned on me how exciting the next 10-15 years could be with these two building controlled yet explosive partnerships together at the crease.

That was a bit wild from Harry Brook. He's goes for a big swipe and misses, nearly losing his footing in the process. A momentary lapse in concentration.

India have called for the new ball. Will it change anything?

The only time the ball has done anything was with the new ball. India will have to try and capitalise off it or they could be in trouble.

After getting back on strike, Harry Brook dispatches Ravindra Jadeja through the covers for four.

He finishes the over with a single to move to 155. He's catching up with Jamie Smith (160).

One over until the new ball (if India want it).

These two are just playing unbelievably well. What they mustn't do is get out before the new ball. You don't want to expose a new batsman to that.

Harry Brook has now played eight reverse sweeps in this innings - more than any other of his Test career to date.

    And there it is.

A single to bring up his 150 off 222 balls. He scored a scratchy 30 last night but has been in excellent touch today.

Harry Brook raises his bat. A lot of bats have been raised today.

  16. Eng 366-5published at 78 overs

Harry Brook takes a single to move to 149.

Jamie Smith, on 159, is happy to defend.

Just touched down in Alicante for the start of my honeymoon, great to see Harry Brook and Jamie Smith still at the crease! Not sure how much I'll get to watch over the next few days, but will TMS at any opportunity.

Ravindra Jadeja bowls from the Pavilion End.

His second ball isn't a good one and Harry Brook pummels it over mid-wicket for four.

I know we've already had a (poor) review this session but a wicket does feel very far away for India.
