For all of Jamie Smith's and Harry Brook's heroics there are far too many ducks on England's scorecard.

    Tom in Belfast

Just think how many England could have got here had the rest of the batting line-up batted even vaguely competently. Total failure from all but Smith and Brook so far. Too many cheap wickets. Chris Woakes needs to understand his role is not to hit out against the new ball when in that situation.

This has been brainless cricket. Lacking a batter here. Honestly, India went with Washington Sundar at number eight. England haven’t learned anything needed Jacob Bethell at eight.

What a day of cricket we've had here today. The contest has been right on, India are on top despite the 300 partnership.

This is the first time in Test history that there's been five ducks and two 150s.

It's been a tremendous hour for India. Mohammed Siraj has been fantastic here today. Without Jasprit Bumrah, he's really stepped up and raised to the occasion.

Mohammed Siraj roars in celebration. The umpire has given Josh Tongue out lbw.

Tongue reviews. It looks a bit desperate.

Josh Tongue can hold a bat, I don't think they need to risk anything out there.

That is a remarkable shot. It barely got off the ground but it's gone for six. It was hit so beautifully.

    England trail by 180

Boom. Akash Deep is tonked for six by Jamie Smith. And he finishes the over with a four to move to 184.

After overhauling Alec Stewart, he has his sights set on Betty Snowball, who scored 189 for England Women.

I remember reading a profile of Snowball which attributed her good footwork when batting to her love of dancing.

If India get two quick ones then they could bat for an hour here tonight.

England need to be a bit careful here or they are going to go too far down.

That's three quick wickets with the new ball. England have slipped from 387-5 to 396-8 and still trail by 191 runs. India's tails are up.

Just before Brydon Carse's exit, Jamie Smith picked up a single to bring up a batting milestone...

Brydon Carse has to go. Very good bowling by Mohammed Siraj. It was pad into bat.

It's out. It was crashing into the top of middle stump. Lovely bowling.

Brydon Carse departs for a duck. What a curious scorecard this is.

Mohammed Siraj is the angriest man in the ground. He can't believe that hasn't been given lbw.

    Rishabh Pant sends it upstairs.

A wicket maiden for Akash Deep.
