Greetings from the Daren Sammy Stadium. There is absolutely no way there will be any more play unfortunately. It is still hammering it down and there are lakes and rivers all over the outfield. The party however, is in full swing.

Sir Alastair Cook, on TNT Sports, has just said "we're not getting back on".

Hard to disagree with that prediction based on current pictures from St Lucia.

Thanks for the message, Mike. It is a tennis term originally, of course.

One of a similar nature I actually quite like is "rain check". The etymology of that phrase is from baseball when a ticket is issued to spectators which allows them entry to a ballgame at a later date at no additional cost.

I've never been keen on the term "dead rubber". Each match in an England shirt is an honour, opportunity and one that millions would want. I include myself as one of those millions.

Standing water on top of the covers at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground with the rain still coming down.

Incidentally, the latest time we can resume this match is 23:48 GMT as a five-overs-a-side contest. England would likely have to chase a DLS target of 69.

However, the umpires may well call it off before that time if there's no chance of play.

Kevin McDonnell, of St Annes Cricket Club, has been in touch on WhatsApp. He's worked out how to get Evin Lewis out...

Unfortunately, the picture in Gros Islet is still pretty bleak I'm afraid. As soon as we have an update we will, of course, bring it to you.

We're just down the coast from the cricket in St Lucia. The weather is just clearing after an hour of very heavy rain. Top picture is this time yesterday, bottom is 15 mins ago.

While I largely agree with you, Russ, I think it's to do with conditioning for workloads over a longer period of time. There's all sorts of analysis done by the sports science teams which include various factors that determine the chances of injury etc.

The upshot is you have to handle fast bowlers with care.

Can someone please explain why you have to manage the workload of someone who will only bowl four overs maximum? If you can’t bowl four overs, you’re not fit enough to play!

So, a few of you lovely folk were texting in before the rain interrupted with some constructive points so let's try to work through some of those while we wait for the rain to relent in Gros Islet.

We'll see where the conversation takes us before I not-so-subtly steer it on to my favourite subject: cricket in obscure and offbeat locations.

As the rain continues to fall in St Lucia, I'm going to take a breather (I know, those five overs were exhausting!) and leave you in the hands of Timothy Abraham.

It's a bit like a rite of passage to live text rain delays. Be nice to him.

Here's the forecast for the next few hours. Hopefully it's just a few passing showers.

The ground staff continue to work diligently on the outfield but there are big puddles forming on those covers now, which are spanning the entire pitch.

It's still raining persistently and doesn't look like there will be a restart any time soon - but we'll keep you updated as soon as there is any news.

It's the third game on this pitch and it didn’t look to be coming on as nicely. The shots needed to cross the boundary appeared to require a bit more muscle and graft.

    Bad news.

It is absolutely hammering down in St Lucia.

Where do you bowl to Evin Lewis? The black dots are balls which went for four on this tour (combined T20 and ODIs) with the green dots going for six. It feels like if you bowl in line with the stumps, you're going the distance.

    WI 44-0

Just as West Indies seem to be getting into their groove, the rain begins to fall and the players make way for the covers.

  20. WI 44-0published at 5 overs

Evin Lewis is into his groove now!

He drills four more past mid-on before John Turner responds in typical fast bowler fashion. Lewis is struck on the helmet, and gets some treatment but is thankfully up and about.
